Wireless Pressure Monitor

© VEKTEK, LLC 2022

Wireless Pressure Monitor The Guardian gives you pre-machining, post-machining or it can take a sample confirming hydraulic pressure while in the machine. The Guardian is the simplest, least expensive and most dependable wireless monitoring system to install and maintain. No transmitter pairing is required -- add new fixtures easily and hassle free. Guardian’s sealed system ensures positive pressure monitoring even in the harshest environments. Best of all, you will enjoy pressure monitoring with no interference issues. Easy, Simple, Dependable

 Fixture Transmitters require NO batteries, EVER!  Fully sealed polycarbonate Fixture Transmitter for service in the harsh machine environment.  Polling of active fixture status before indexing, never index an unclamped fixture into your machine.  Will not affect other wireless systems in your plant.  Simplified connection via standard waterproof connectors and cables.  Master Control Unit can communicate pressure confirmation to your CNC Controller.  Master Control Unit power requirements; 10-36 VDC from Machining Center.

DISPLAYED AND COMMUNICATED BY MASTER CONTROL UNIT

The Basics Of Guardian Operation: Step 1. Install Vektek pressure switches on fixture. Step 2. Find a place and mount your Fixture Transmitter. Step 3. Find a location for your Machine Tool Receiver. Step 4. Wire your Master Control Unit with just four wires. Step 5. No more tool crashes! IT IS THAT SIMPLE.

What does Guardian read and confirm? The Vektek Guardian pressure monitoring system is designed to confirm that pressure is above a pre-set minimum. This can be done before indexing or while inside the machine. Typical checking is done at the load station before loading a fixture into the machine. Inside the machine sampling requires the fixture to be in a known location and between machine operations without coolant and spindle interference.

What if I want to check a pallet before it goes into the machine?

The simplicity of the Guardian allows for additional remote Machine Tool Receivers to engage with the Fixture Transmitter at any point it is in range. You can confirm pressure as a pallet is removed from storage, while it is on the way to the machine or even just before indexing.

Attributes & Advantages!

How does Guardian know what transmitter to read? The Guardian uses a focused field

How do I set the pressure switch to notify my Guardian that pressure is below the critical set point? The pressure switch needs to be set to the predetermined “critical pressure” where part quality or stability may be affected. If your system pressure is 4000 psi and there is a minimum pressure to make good parts at 3000 psi, it should be set to send an alarm just above the 3000 psi reading. Note: The pressure setter/checker will help measure pressure when falling. The switch is adjusted to break continuity at some level above 3000 psi in this example. It is unreliable to set the declining pressure by adjusting while pressure is rising. Likewise, it is not recommended that pressure is adjusted too close to the operating pressure as temperature fluctuation may cause a false loss of pressure signal (we recommend at least 300-500 psi allowable drop from the stable pressure after adiabatic fluctuation is stable.) Guardian Maintenance The entire Guardian system is designed to be nearly maintenance free. All of the units require no scheduled maintenance. The Fixture Transmitter and Machine Tool Receiver should be inspected occasionally to check for damage to the enclosures. If they are damaged, they should be replaced.

communications bubble to monitor a fixed area with limited dimensions. Typically, the focused area is the loading station or a known location within the interior of a machine tool enclosure. The Guardian Receiver is typically mounted toward the top of the enclosure pointed down toward the fixture and its transmitter. Once the fixture and transmitter enter the focused field it is actively monitored (As shown in the illustration). How do I “pair” a transmitter to receiver? The Guardian pallet pressure monitoring system does not need to be paired with the Fixture Transmitter. The focused field communication bubble engages once the components enter the focused field. This allows for simple addition of any fixture with a Guardian Fixture Transmitter. Why are the transmitters unpaired? The reason for “unpaired” transmitters is Guardian’s focused field technology. Rather than being limited to a maximum of 8/12/24 or 32 paired (or readable) units, the Guardian has unlimited reading rights to its unpaired Fixture Transmitters. Only one unit within the focused field can be read at one time, however thousands of transmitters may be brought into reading range over time WITHOUT the time, effort and inconvenience of “pairing.” After all, the basic function is not to see ALL the transmitters, only to WATCH the transmitter while in the machine or load station! What about battery failures? The Guardian Fixture Transmitter has no batteries, so you will never need to be concerned about battery replacement or maintenance. The Fixture Transmitter is powered by advanced energy harvesting technology. The Master Control Unit and Machine Tool Receiver are powered by their connection to the Machine Tool, so never any battery replacements.

Mounting considerations for installing Fixture Transmitter and Machine Tool Receiver The Fixture Transmitter should be mounted for line-of-sight communication with the Machine Tool Receiver. The focused field of the Guardian identifies the Fixture Transmitter being monitored. The Machine Tool Receiver should be mounted to provide the best possible clear path of communication with the Fixture Transmitter and within 6 feet of the pallet being checked. The Guardian Fixture Transmitters should be mounted where they are not directly in the line of high-pressure coolant spray. The label on the front of the Machine Tool Receiver should face the monitored area where the Fixture Transmitter will be located.

CORRECT LINE OF SIGHT TRANSMITTER PLACEMENTS

The illustrations show the BEST transmitter locations; however, only one Fixture Transmitter per fixture is recommended.

Things to Consider 1. Where are the M-Code terminals on your machine, and do you have any currently available ? 2. What are your best choice for communication terminals, are they available or will you need to tie into currently dedicated Door Closed, E-Stop or Feed Hold relays? 3. Is your machine positive or negative case ground (which is switched on/off) ? 4. What length of cables is going to be necessary to mount the Machine Tool Receiver to the Master Control Unit ? 5. For the best operator visibility to the status display, where will the Guardian Master Control Unit be mounted?

6. What location in the machine enclosure will you put the Guardian Machine Tool Receiver that has clear line-of-sight and will not be hit by the pallet or spindle ? 7. Where will you locate the Guardian Fixture Transmitters on your pallet that is visible to the focused field ? 8. What is the critical pressure lower limit at which you want to prevent machining ? 9. Will you need help from your Machine Tool Distributor’s service staff or does your staff have the ability to install the Guardian ?

2. Adjust the pressure switch to send a fault signal at critical pressure using the Pressure Setter/Checker when pressure is falling. 3. When pressure is detected, a go signal can be given to the door closed switch or other input choice. Or write the “call” into your program if using an “M” code confirmation as often as you want to monitor, this is typically done during tool changes with coolant off to reduce interference and costly demand on production time. 120.42 6.5 75.4 150.79 62 24.29 VEKTEK P/N 43-3011-13 FIXTURE TRANSMITTER UNIT VEKTEK P/N 43-3011-13 FIXTURE TRANSMITTER UNIT M8 PRESSURE SWITCH CONNECTION 12.89 120.42 6.5 75.4 150.79 62 24.29 M8 PRESSURE SWITCH CONNECTION 12.89 25.39
