Supporting the wellbeing of our residents and colleagues through sustainable lifestyles alongside our Resident

Wellbeing Strategy.

Our vision is to enable current and future generations to love living in later life.

In addition to developing implementation plans under the sustainability strategy, we have been working to engage and upskill colleagues, including preparing colleagues in our care homes for the new Care Quality Commission sustainability requirements. Anchor is committed to involving residents at every stage of this journey and a new Resident Environmental Forum has been established to enable residents to be engaged in the direction and delivery of sustainability as we progress. ESG reporting We carried out a full baseline assessment of our greenhouse gas emissions for 2021-22 and repeated this for 2022-23. These results were published in our annual report last year and we continue to report voluntarily under the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) methodology and the more comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Protocol to include scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. In addition, we publish an annual Sustainability Report, providing detailed data across a wide range of environmental, social and governance measures meeting the Sustainable Reporting Standard for Social Housing. We are now in our third year of reporting against this set of measures, enabling us to start to draw comparisons year on year. Going forward, for consistency, our greenhouse gas emissions and sustainability reporting will be published annually in our Sustainability Report each Autumn.

Energy efficiency This year has seen progress in improving the energy efficiency of residents’ homes, from 83.2% of rented homes at EPC C or above to 86.4% at the end of the reporting year. Anchor is part of the Greener Futures Partnership of registered providers who won a bid for £40.4m from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2.1 to retrofit 5,495 properties which have energy efficiency levels below EPC C. Over the last year, we have been scaling up Anchor’s retrofit programme to bring 341 rented homes up to at least EPC C with the support of £2.2m Social Housing Decarbonisation Funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), match-funded by Anchor. This work continues apace, together with exploration of options to further improve energy efficiency across our portfolio as we develop a strategic approach to integrating energy efficiency improvements in our Asset Investment Plan and delivery capabilities. At year end, we had completed works in 50 homes and 52 were in progress with contractors on site. Improvements included installing loft insulation, replacing and upgrading heating systems, and replacing windows as well as ensuring ventilation. As part of our work to influence the supply chain and unlock national retrofit skills and supply chain capacity
