NON RESIDENT FEE

CANCELLATIONS

There is a $10 surcharge for non-Stamford residents for each order placed.

Stamford Adult and Continuing Education reserves the right to make changes as needed, including limiting enrollment in a course or withdrawing a course due to insufficient enrollment. If a course is cancelled due to low enrollment, students who registered will be notified and will receive a full refund . C lasses may be postponed or offered virtually. Students will receive a credit voucher for classes that have been interrupted. Class sessions may also be rescheduled due to an unexpected school closing (e.g., inclement weather or teacher absence). Refunds or credits will not be issued to students unable to attend a rescheduled (make-up) class. SCHOOL CLOSINGS As a general rule, if day school is closed because of inclement weather, night school will also be closed. In case of cancellation of night classes, please tune to News Channel 12, the website www.stamfordpublicschools.org, or call the Adult Education office at (203) 977- 4209, press 6 for a recorded message. By providing your email address, you will receive an email enrollment confirmation. If you do not use email and want a confirmation, please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your registration form.

SUPPLIES, MATERIALS & BOOKS

is placed after the course title if there is a book or material fee. Textbooks assigned by instructors can be purchased the first night of class.

WITHDRAWALS • REFUNDS

All classes in the enrichment program are self-supporting and depend upon full collection of tuition. Students wishing to cancel their registration must do so in writing by mail or email at least five business days prior to the start of class to receive a refund. A $20 processing fee will be charged on all refunds. Exceptions are: • Single Session Classes - No refunds. • Restaurant Classes - No refunds. • Tennis Classes - No refunds. • Online Courses (ed2go) - Withdrawals and transfer requests are accepted up to 5 days after the start date of the class in which you are enrolled. Students assume all risk of injury and/ or changes in their personal schedules. Absence from the class will not reduce the cost of operating our programs. For this reason, student absence will not result in a refund, tuition credit, or make-up session.

JOIN OUR GED® CLASSES

This program prepares adult learners to pass the four-part, computer-based GED ® exam to earn a State of Connecticut diploma. When you register for classes, a placement test will be administered. Based on the results, you will be assigned to an appropriate instructional level. A student must earn a score of 236 or higher on our placement test to be placed in

GED ® classes. CLASSES

To register for GED ® preparation classes students must be at least 17 years old, officially withdrawn from school, and must submit a withdrawal form with a parent or guardian’s signature if required.

EXAM To take the official GED ® exam, students must meet Connecticut State testing requirements as follows: students age 17 must be withdrawn from school for at least six months to be eligible to take the exam and submit official withdrawal forms; students age 18 may be required to provide an option to withdraw form signed by a school official; pass at least one of the GED Ready tests with a score of 150 or greater at www.ged.com; provide a valid government issued identification; provide proof of Connecticut address; and pay the $13.00 exam fee if 21 years of age and older. Ages 17-20 do not pay an exam fee. 004 ART OF THE CINEMA: ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT By combining a text on film appreciation, and viewing films from the birth of motion pictures to present day, you will follow the growth of the aesthetic value within filmmaking in order to make the experience more than just “going to the movies.” We will begin with the silent era and end with a film produced within the last 5-10 years of the same genre. 001 PAINTING IN OILS AND ACRYLIC R This course is for beginning and more advanced

students. Beginners will learn how to mix colors and basic color theory including value, color temperature, and com- plimentary color mixing. More advanced students will work on paintings of their own choice. 003 INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR R This class is for students who have had a previous experience with the watercolor medium. Students will learn how to use other materials like canvas and wood panels to work with watercolors, and learn how to seal your watercolor project. Rosa E. 006 ACTING FOR THE CAMERA This weekly class introduces the basic skills and techniques required when acting for the camera. 012 MICROSOFT EXCEL: A COMPREHENSIVE INTRODUCTION This course provides an introduction to the popular spreadsheet program and many of its useful and powerful features. Students will learn concepts and techniques to create and use spreadsheets for various purposes in the home and office. Topics covered will include data entry and formatting, copying and pasting, formulas, printing, saving and opening files, charts, and basic math concepts. 007 INTRODUCTION TO SHORT FILM DEVELOPMENT This course will introduce or amplify the process of taking an idea or story to adapt it for the screen in particular short films and stories, PSA’s, and proof of concepts documentary. We will cover the steps from screenplay to production, including a class-produced short film at the end of the session. 6:00-8:00PM Edwin Escobar Thurs., Sept. 1 2 Virtual 5 sessions $129 Edwin Escobar is a self taught director and cinematographer based in CT. He has been offering video production services to developing artists of all mediums and small businesses for the last 14 years. Edwin has worked in over a dozen short films, including four original award winning projects.

It doesn’t matter what kind of equipment you use: your smart phone camera, a disposable 35mm camera, or a state-of-the- art digital single lens reflex camera; you’ll learn the basics of photography in this class. Photographic fundamentals such as exposure and focus control, posing, and composition will be discussed. We’ll critique your prints to help you take better pictures. We’ll also give you photo tips and share our professional experience. Bring your photos, a notebook, your camera, and plan to have a good time. No experience necessary. Python is one of the most popular programming languages used in most industries from gaming to finance. You can use the programming language for developing both desktop and web applications. Also, you can use Python for developing complex scientific and numeric applications. By learning these concepts, students will have a starting point to learn how Python is used within Data Science for Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning. This workshop will provide you with the tools you need to release your financial anxiety so you can finally focus on reaching your goals. You will do this by understanding your money personality, and how to set goals for your unique strengths and challenges. You will leave with mindful financial tips and exercises that you can put into action immediately. 019 PILATES MAT Pilates-Mat is a strengthening and lengthening form of exercise that focuses on your core muscles while also training your arms and legs. Pilates-Mat is based on the original exercises Joseph Pilates developed to strengthen his own body while being a prisoner of war in WWI. Pilates can be modified for any age and fitness level. Benefits include improved posture, coordination and balance, increased lung capacity, awareness, and stress management to mention a few. 020 T’AI CHI CHU’AN The essence of T’ai Chi Chu’an is the development of the inner self through meditation in motion. In a slow dance-like movement, you flow and weave through the intricate fabric of space, swimming in the air as though it were water. The dynamic metamorphosis and lucid calmness that follow develop “Chi,” the energy of all things in the universe. “Chi” enables one to be in harmony with all, living joyously and attentively under all circumstances. 040 FALL INTO THE CATSKILLS New Pick-up the tour guide and head out on a scenic fall foliage and farm tour. Some of the highlights for this portion of the day include: viewing of bicentennial farms, gorgeous views of Durham Valley, the 5 state view in East Windham, and the famous Catskill Mountain Country Store. Head over to Gavin’s Irish Country Inn where you will dine and enjoy live and local music. Later in the day, continue with the local touring.
