The Illumination of the Human Soul
“ Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. " - Albus Dumbledore.
We all have heard the phrase ’the light within’ somewhere. It may be in a movie where the main character gets help with their struggles from a wise wizard or mentor. Or in a self-help book, motivating you to find happiness. It’s even the name of some acclaimed book and podcast. Its meaning refers to a philosophy of inherent positive quality, divine presence, inner peace, faith, and, most importantly, hope. This light isn’t external, it’s in-built. It’s there, just smothered by everything else. The thing about light is that you can only see it when everything’s dark. Similarly, it’s only when the days get dark that you see the moon. When you’re at your lowest points and everything seems gloomy, this light shines. This light presents itself in various forms. When you’re feeling dejected, it’s hope. When you’re insecure about yourself, it shows up as reassurance and confidence. When you’re stuck in the process, it’s motivation. When you’re hesitant, it’s certainty. It’s small, but it’s enough. Enough to lift your spirits. Enough to prompt some happy thoughts. Enough to keep you moving. Once you start moving, all the bad events start getting left to history. The tough parts get going. Eventually, you’ll reach where you want as a result of your effort and the motivation brought upon by your inner light. While it may sound a bit philosophical, it does reflect reality. Michael Jordan, for instance, didn’t make it to the varsity team in his sophomore year. He had a rough time swallowing it down, but this light came on. The light was his motivation to make it next time, and this gave him the drive to finally achieve what he wished. So, when everything gets dark, you’ll know that your light has your back.
