we find th a t while the doctrinal position of th e church is maintained in th e highest degree, and while th e teaching in the Sunday Schools may he altogether satisfactory from th e sp iritu al standpoint, all sorts of tom foolery are in tro duced into Sunday School parties and picnics th a t have brought the blush to one’s cheek. Again we reiterate the rem ark quoted abo've “ I cannot understand it. Can you explain, it? ” Gh! for the breath of heaven to w aft the holy breezes over the Church of Christ th a t these more th a n question able elements m ight be driven out of th e churches and Sun day Schools of our beloved land. Never can we know what true, abiding, revival blessing means un til we have awak ened to th e gravity of th e situation as seen in th e ligh t of the Throne of God. Only too often have we h eard the sad confession th a t the worldliness th a t has ruined souls and blighted th e zeal of many Christians was first experienced w ithin the-precincts of th e church and Sunday School. Surely, we are engaged in the most dreadful form of w arfare the Church of Christ has ever known. She has again and again come fo rth from th e fires of persecution, resplendent w ith the very glory of heaven, b u t today she flounders and is besm irched and dishonoured in her tinsel and her finery,— th e prey of th e world, the flesh and the devil. The Bible Our p n ly C riterion In all these m atters the Bible must be, and is, our only criterion. We have searched th e Scriptures through again and again, and we find not the sligh test justification for th e comprom ising suggestions and tactics of the present day. Abraham must have no association w ith th e K ing of Sodom. (Genesis 14 and 15) . Moses chose ra th e r to suf fer affliction w itl» the people of God th an enjoy the pleas ures of sin for a season. (Hebrews 11). David found to his shame and sorrow w hat it m eant to compromise w ith evil. Job, on his ash heap, learned th e preciousness and th e bless ing which comes through separation unto the Lord; and look where we will, we find th roughou t the entire range of Scripture, Old and New Testam ents alike,— Gospels— Epistles— Revelation, th a t th e one underlying principle of the Gospel is to come ap a rt from these things. The line of separation is th e only line th a t God has prom ised to bless, and therefore it behooves us to use every means in our power to bring home these v ital tru th s to the hearts of th e Lord's people. H onour of th e Lord is a t Stake Above all, the honour of th e Lord is a t stak e in th is m atter. Heaven mourns and grieves over th e dishonour done to His Holy Name, and the m isreading and misapply ing of His precious tru th . Days of mourning are upon us, th e Church must be prepared to split over these m atters, and above all, if revival blessing is ever to come, we must know something of the burdened h ea rt of the P salm ist who w rote: “Rivers of w a te rs-ru n down m ine eyes, because they keep not Thy law .” Psalm 119:136. The doctrine of Christ Is vital, viz— the stand ard set up by th e Holy Spirit in th e Scripture quoted a t the head of th is article. And God forbid th a t any true-h earted follower of th e Lord Jesus Christ should ever compromise th e issue by associating with' th e an ti-ch ristian men, women, and movements th a t predom inate in the Church of Christ today.
