HOW TO READ THE WORD Read th e Scriptures regularly through. Read, a lte r nately, portions from th e Old and New Testaments. Begin a t th e beginning of each. Mark where you leave off, and begin th ere next time. When you have finished each T esta ment, 'begin it again. 2. Read w ith prayer. You cannot by your own wisdom understand th e word of God. In all your reading of the Scriptures, seek carefully th e help of th e Holy Spirit. Ask for Jesu s’ sake th a t He will enlighten you. 3. Read w ith m editation. Ponder over what you read. The tru th is thus applied to your heart. You see new and deeper meanings. It is b etter to th in k over a little than merely to read a g reat deal. 4. Read w ith reference to yourself. Never read only w ith a view to in stru cting others; b u t for your own teach ing. Receive blessing yourself first, and you will com municate it to others. Always ask yourself, “How does this affect me! ” 5. Read w ith faith ... Not as statem ents which you may believe or not, bu t as the revealed word of God. Receive every word as tru e, w ith simple childlike tru st. Rest upon the promises. Read them as made fo r you. 6. Read in o rd er to carry into practice. We must accept His Word as being th e revelation of His will. In it He tells us w hat to be and w hat to do. He expects us to be “ obedient children."— Geo. Muller. BIBLE NOTES FOR STUDENTS 1.
