chow, “The Venice of China,” gave us th e opportunity of speaking to the Chinese Missionary Society, composed en tirely of Chinese women. When we tell you th a t th eir most cherished donation goes for missions in AFRICA, you have th e best argum ent in th e World again st the people who ignorantly ta lk about “ rice Christians.” Next in order came the wonderful blessing of God in th e Shanghai meetings. W ith everything theoretically again st us, even to having to climb to th e th ird sto ry of the building where th e h all was located, for th ere were ho elevators, God answered your prayers. They said only about twelve people could be gathered in th a t city for Bible' Study, bu t the Lord sen t hund red s for two weeks. Souls were saved, lives surrendered, and those whose faith had been, wrecked by Modernism had th e ir feet' pu t back on the- etern al verities of God’s Word. Additional Open ings presented themselves while we were in Shanghai and so far as physical streng th allowed we spoke a t churches and schools in the city. The trip to Changsha, you heard about in the last num ber of The K ing’s Business, and so afte r mentioning an opportunity to p resen t th e life-giving Word in two schools of Chinkiang, we will carry you far to th e north, through the bandit infested d istrict to the summer conference a t Peitaiho, located on the g rea t Gulf which is enclosed on th e east by P o rt A rthu r. F irs t of all th ere was a confer ence of Chinese Christian leaders, both men and women, from all over th e surrounding provinces. This lasted ten days and God did His own work. Following this th e re was a theoretical week of re st before th e long “F oreigners’ Conference,” bu t the Lord opened th e way to have a class for five mornings in E ast Cliff, a settlem ent of missiona ries and business people about two miles away. The mani fest blessing of the Lord came upon th is and we thanked th e Lord we had not been too anxious to rest. Immediately th e m issionaries began to g ath er to escape th e fearful heat. They came from all p arts of China, even from far away Canton, and also from Jap an and Korea. We said “We have no m ight for .this. You will have to give streng th and words, dear Lord.” We had asked you to pray, and God answered most graciously, blessing all th e leaders of the conference in th e ir messages and all the delegates as they listened, Miss R u th Paxson and Rev. John H unter being signally used of God. Then we tu rn ed our faces southw ard to Shanghai where we took passage fo r Egypt and th e Holy Lands. The voyage of four weeks and a day gave opportunity to speak twice a t th e ship’s services, as well as to have some very definite conversations w ith those on board. Of th e trip through Egypt and P alestine it would tak e many pages to tell, bu t we suggest these impressions, in closing, from th a t p articu lar p a rt of the jou rn ey :— The possibility of the things of an tiqu ity coming down to us absolutely intact, th erefo re it does not strain our credul ity to know th e same concerning our Bible,—The reality of Christ’s presence on th is earth ,— The differentiation of th e Gospel from all o ther religions because it has no grave CONTAINING THE BODY OF ITS FOUNDER, as have

The Regions Beyond (By Miss W inifred Rouzee, one of th e Bible Women who has retu rn ed to Los Angeles afte r a y ear’s leave of absence for special work in China.) On October 16, 1922, we p u t our hand in th e hand of the dear Lord and let Him. lead us ou t into unknown lands and very new experiences. The saints a t home were asked to pray, and now we re tu rn to tell th e g reat “K ing’s Business F am ily” scattered everywhere, how graciously God an swered th e ir prayers. The first opportunity came in mid-ocean between San Francisco and Honolulu, when y e were privileged to speak a t the evening service on ship board. Reaching Honolulu, we gave an evening: message to a Bible class and had a good season of fellowship. The re st of the journey gave opportunity for a little tactfu l personal work w ith those on board who had various needs. A rriving in Shanghai, the invitation came to give the evening lesson to th e w orkers a t th e China Inland Mission, and we felt strangely inspired w ithin those walls so full of memories of th a t wonderful serv an t of God, Hudson Taylor. The next day we left Shanghai and after an eight hour journey by rail to Nanking, we found ourselves a t the Bible Teachers’ T raining School where our principal work was to be for nine months. Here were gathered over eighty students in th e only school of its special kind in China. The T raining School adm its only young women of higher education who are desirous of Bible T raining. There are many schools where the woman of meagre education may learn the Bible, b u t it is only fair for th e'ed u cated woman to be able to study w ith those of h er own attainm en ts so as not to be hindered by those who have had less oppor tunity. These young women came from fourteen provinces of China, and were going out as leaders in Christian work. As we went" to speak to them our constant prayer seemed to be “Dear Lord help us to speak to th e whole of China!” It was some tim e before we could hear them pray or sing w ithout a g reat lump rising in our th ro at, so very earn est were these dear young women. In answer to prayer God gave .a splendid in te rp re ter in h earty sympathy w ith our message, and He graciously vouchsafed to us the ability to speak through an in terp reter w ithout any difficulty a t all. We had five regu lar classes w ith them each week, be sides th ree afternoon classes which were open to four nearby schools, and God signally blessed th is contact w ith outside high school students and sem inary students. At the same tim e we met, each week, a class of m issionaries who were anxious for refreshm ent and Bible study. On Sunday afternoons we led a class of English speaking Chi nese, and many times during th e year responded to requests to speak a t various educational institutions, and confer ences of leaders. During th e “ China New Year” season, the School called back its Alumnae for a m idw inter con ference and we had th e joy of leading them in Bible study and devotional them es for ten days.
