Maxims of Life and Business, by John W anam aker. Here are several hundred maxims well worth studying. They are th e outgrow th of th e experiences of a rem arkable man who hewed his way through the labyrinth of years to th e summ it of success. Every young business man should have the book and read it often. Here is a sample: “O Lord, Thou knowest th e sea of life and to ju s t what harbo r we are sailing. Each one of us is m aking a strange, sho rt voyage. Thou h ast p u t into our hands Thy Book which contains our sailing directions. We ask Thee to un dertak e our whole life for us. Be thou our P ilot and may thy course be our course, th a t Thou mayest steer us straig h t to the shores of everlasting joy and peace a t thy rig h t hand. Nyilak and O ther Sketches, Mabel Easton. Miss Easton is a m issionary of th e Africa Inland -Mission and has w rit ten a dozen sketches of real life in the Belgian Congo. The book displays a ra re g ift of picture painting and the scenes, m anners and customs of African life are graphically por trayed. You can really be “rig h t th e re ” as you read and your h ea rt will warm w ith real desire th a t Africa m ight have many “Miss E astons” to lead the natives to th e feet of Jesus (Revell) $1.00

This book consists of seventeen chapters in plain, practical form , com mencing w ith “The R ap tu re of the Church” including “Af te r the M illennium” and closing w ith a “ Prophecy Ques tion Box!’ w ith answers to questions most logically asked on these themes. Any person who would devote seventeen nights to th is series of readings would have more inform a tion along th e line of th e subjects trea ted th a n they could obtain from years of listening to ordinary pu lp it sermons. They are real evangelistic Bible sermons and carry th e message of salvation in th e clear-cut, m aster ful m anner for which Dr. Torrey is noted. They are well adapted for home reading as well as fo r suggestions to young preachers. (Revell) $1.50. W h at is Success? Roger W. Babson. Mr. Babson has w ritten a book on the fu tu re of th e churches and he w rites as a Christian business man, and has given some ex ceedingly helpful suggestions fo r th e clergy and for Chris tian business men and women. (Revell) $1.25. Christianity an d L iberalism , J. Gresham Machen, D. D., A ssistant P rofessor of New T estam ent L ite ra tu re in P rince ton Theological Seminary. Dr. Machen says in his in tro duction: “The purpose of th is book is not to decide the religious issues of th e present day, b u t merely to present the issue sharply and clearly as possible in o rder th a t the read er may be aided in deciding for him self.” He has done it and we h eartily commend th is volume to those who stand four square for th e Word of God, as a streng th en er of their faith ; and to those who “wobble” as a remedy for weak knees. A strong, sterling defence of the doctrine of the resurrection upon which doctrine the faith of the believer is founded. Dr. Ordal well says: “ If Jesus did not arise from the dead the Christian religion is, in its essential purpose, ju st as vain and ju st as value less as the other religions of th e world.” Incontrovertible in its logic. The au tho r in the preface says: “The immediate aim of th e book has been to support the belief th a t .the language of self-assertion recorded in the Gospels is substantially th e language of Jesus Himself, an essential element in th e marvellous life which is th e puzzle of history.” A book of especial value to m inisters.
