ABSALOM STEALING THE HEARTS OF ISRAEL (Continued from Page 71) tion as to “ Spirit-guided leadership” in our m idst during these days. Surely we are in perilous times, and in days of strange delusions. The declaration of faith a t Stockholm, whatever may be said in its favor, and much can be said,—was silent on cer ta in fundam ental and v ita ! issues. Why? The g reatest question of th is hour is whether or not we have a whole Bible, but (1 ) Not a word was said concerning th e verbal and plenary inspiration of th e Scriptures. (2) Not a word was said against the inroads of evolu tion, or a syllable of defense u ttered in behalf of th e Gene sis account of Creation. (3) Not a word was said concerning th e V irgin B irth, — only a vague reference to it. (4) Not a word was said on the necessity of rep en t ance. Evolutionists do not believe it is necessary, since man has never fallen. (5) And not a word was said concerning the Personal, Bodily, Visible, re tu rn of Christ to th e earth . On th e con trary , in th e m idst of th e larg e am ount of space in the declaration given to social service and in tern ation al rela tions, th is statem en t was made: “ THIS IS ANOTHER COMING OF THE SON OF MAN!” Now can pre-m illennialists accept this? T h at’s w h at th e Modernists say.^ - “ ano ther coming” means another social development, ano th er forward step in th e progress of th e race, a “sp iritual development!” FOURTH,— shall Modernism reign ? Already w ith its evils, it is in complete control in many places. Only yes terday, th e South boasted th a t Modernism could not be found in our m idst; it was only in th e “North and E ast.” But w hat do we find? Recent investigations have shown beyond all peradventure of doubt th a t several college and university presidents of Southern B aptist institutions, to gether w ith members of th e ir faculties, have come out openly fo r the evolutionary hypothesis. When investigated and asked concerning th eir false teaching, they go into livid rages, and when cornered still more closely they “re pen t” and te ll th e ir “ Christian experience,” and adm it th a t they believe in a “ certain kind of evolution.” . In the lead ing Southern B aptist College east of the Mississippi River, th e president said the following: “W h eth er, yo u lik e it o r n o t, y o u a re a k in to a ll th a t liv es, n o t m e re ly th e h u m b le m em b ers o f th e an im al, k in g d o m , b u t th e h u m b le r m em b ers of th e v e g e ta b le k in g d o m a s w e ll; w e a ll d eriv e o u r p h y sic a l life fro m th e sa m e so u rce. “D istin g u is h in g b e tw e e n n o n -se x u a l re p ro d u c tio n , d iv isio n w ith o u t u n io n , a n d se x u a l re p ro d u c tio n ,, d iv isio n a f te r u n io n , h e tra c e d th e p h e n o m e n a in v a ry in g fo rm s of m a tte r, b e g in n in g w ith th e in e v ita b le to p ic of th e b io lo g ist, th e u n i-c e lle d m icro sco p ic o rg a n ism w h ic h th e s p e a k e r in tro d u c e d a s ‘My frie n d , th e am o eb a.’ ” In the leading B aptist university west of th e Mississippi River, a head professor w rote in his textbook, the book th a t was printed by the school where he taugh t, the fol lowing: “T h e q u e stio n c o n s ta n tly p re s e n tin g its e lf to th e s tu d e n t of so c ial e v o lu tio n is, w h a t k in d of a b e in g w a s p rim itiv e m a n ? The God of the Bible

By Dr. R. A. Torrey Dr. Torrey has felt th at there w as need a t this time of changing religious definitions, of a re-statem ent of the idea o f God a s he finds Him in his study of the Bible. The sta r t ling con trast between som e modern views of the diety and his own interpretation of Scripture is sharply brought out. The author has gone back to the original Hebrew of the Old T e sta ment and the Greek of the New in his search for the “ p o d of the Bible.” The fam ous evangelist and w riter is a t his best in this study o f the divine personality.
