attending Comet Bay College’s ANZAC Service and official opening of its new and impressive Military History Museum. Claire Hunt, as the Defence Transition Mentor at the College, was a driving force behind both activities. The Defence Transition Mentor Program provides support to secondary students of Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families, particularly during their transition into and out of a school on posting or during parental absences due to deployment, exercises or courses. Defence families can change location sometimes up to every two to three years and due to differences in curriculum, subject selections and intake educational program from one school to the next and particularly from one State to another. In her role at Comet Bay, Claire goes above and beyond to ensure the whole of the school community benefits from her passion and enthusiasm. For the Centenary of the departure of the first fleet from Albany, Claire embraced the RSL poppy project and worked with volunteers and school students to create in excess of 7,000 poppies. It was these poppies that were used to create the giant 100 that was used for the Giants, The Sunset Services and ANZAC Day 2015, in addition to being used in Albany. Claire also works with her local RSL and at local services such as Remembrance Day and Vietnam Veterans Day and is always there to give a helping hand. age requirements there can be considerable differences in their

Two inspiring Western Australians have been named 2016 ANZACs of the Year by RSL National. Geoff McClements, who is the mainstay of the Claremont RSL Sub-Branch, and Claire Hunt, the unassuming Defence “kids” mentor at Comet Bay College in Safety Bay, have each in their unique way made enormous contributions to the Defence community. Geoff is an amazingly active man at 93 years young and continues to act as Claremont’s “President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer” while new talent is sought to fill the void. Geoff enlisted in the Navy at Fremantle in 1941 when he was just 18 years old. He served until 1946 when he was demobilised. He joined Scarborough RSL Sub-Branch in the 1950s and moved to the Claremont Sub- Branch in the 1970s. In 1983 he became President, when there were 189 financial members, and has served ever since. Regrettably and despite his time and efforts to reinvigorate the membership there are now only eight members. He is a life member of the Claremont Bowling Club and well- known as a player for the Claremont Football Club from 1946 to 1948. Throughout his time as President he has been a strong advocate of the values of the RSL. Greatly respected by the local council, he collaborates with the Town each year to co-ordinate the annual Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day Services. Last Remembrance Day he had sold in excess of 1,000 poppies by mid – morning when he then went and
