The philosophies and methodologies informing the choice and application of colour in any environment are many and varied. Colour, in addition to interior form, light, space and texture, is a major design element that can be used to create an enriched learning environment. Externally, colour can be a means of contextualising a building amongst others, or be used to define its form distinctly from others. Internally, colour has a large role to play in the demarcation of spaces and the definition of their purpose. Of course, it can also be used to create mood or, conversely, neutrality where other elements of the design are brought to the fore.
