Surfers Paradise and the broader Gold Coast region are experiencing a remarkable economic resurgence, solidifying their status as a vibrant hub for tourism, business, and cultural activities. In 2024, the Gold Coast's Gross Regional Product (GRP) grew by 17.4%, surpassing both Queensland's and Australia's growth rates.
This economic vitality is further evidenced by the city's contribution of $68,134 per capita to the national economy, reflecting a robust and resilient economic landscape.
A significant catalyst for this growth is the extensive redevelopment of the Gold Coast Turf Club (GCTC). The $70.5 million Tracks, Tunnel & Lights Project, co-funded by the Queensland Government, Racing Queensland, and GCTC, has transformed the facility into a premier metropolitan standard thoroughbred racing venue. This transformation enhances the GCTC's role as the host of the prestigious $14.5 million Magic Millions raceday, attracting international attention and bolstering the local economy. The GCTC's redevelopment is part of a broader $370 million project, a collaboration between the Turf Club and Aquis Australia, aiming to create a dynamic precinct that complements the nearby Home of the Arts (HOTA).
