Produced by the contractor, the programme’s primary function is to ensure the effective planning and sequencing of the various components of the works and is of use in keeping an eye on progress. The programme also serves to point out where help may be needed so that the results as envisaged are achieved. Information in the programme has an important secondary role in assessing contractor applications for extensions of time and assisting with the resolution of disputes between contractor and employer, roles not always readily appreciated by contract draftsmen. The programme should include various components such as the start date, completion date, the critical path to confirmwhen a certain important task is to be completed so that the next one can start and the sequence of events on a building project. To bind or not to bind If the programme is not included as a contract document, it will not legally bind the parties, but it can indicate to the employer, contractor, consultants and sub-contractors how the works should be coming along. Including the programme as a contract document will legally bind

Monitoring progress of construction projects Having a programme for a project is one of the most important documents for construction works.
