The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Maestro Delta David Gier, revive Douglas Moore’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opera inspired by Ole Edvart Rølvaags epic novel about Norwegian settlers of the Dakota Territory in 1873. Staged with imagery and costumes, sung in English.
This performance marks the centennial of Rølvaag’s novel on which the opera is based.
The opera features 10 singers and the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
The story takes place in South Dakota, very near Sioux Falls.
