Creating family-fun events is a great way to spend the summer. However, it can also be time-consuming. If you’re wondering how you’re going to juggle much-needed family time with work, there are a few local events you can attend with the whole family! NAPERVILLE’S FARMERS MARKET Going to a local farmers market can be an excellent experience for everyone in the family. Wake up early and head down to grab breakfast, then enjoy the morning and afternoon walking past the stalls. If you happen to miss the market one weekend, don’t fret! Naperville’s Farmer Market will take place every Saturday in July and the following few months, running from 7 a.m. to noon. Head down to 5th Avenue Station Parking Lot to enjoy the market! K.I.S.S. The Illinois Tollway is hosting an event that will take place on Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at Buybuy Baby, located at 301 N. Randall Road. The free Kids Identification and Safety Seat is where children’s IDs will be processed and car seats will undergo free safety inspections. Children 3 years old or older attending will receive free identification cards. While parents can learn more about car seat safety, children can play with an interactive coloring station. There will

also be a raffle, giving attendees a chance to win a free car seat.

WEEKLY WALKS If you have a family pet in the house, then this event is perfect for you. Weekly Walks is a chance for all dog- lovers to walk their dogs with other dog-loving and walking devotees. Go and introduce your dog to some new friends. Getting out of the house to exercise and enjoy the excellent evening weather of Illinois is just what the family needs. The event takes place July 19 and starts at 6:30 p.m., lasting for 45 minutes. Meet on Two Bostons, located at 130 West Jefferson Avenue. This July, head out and enjoy the weather and fun activities with your family!

Inspired by Bon Appetit magazine CHARRED CHILI-CHEESE CORN

You’ll find all of the flavors of elote, Mexican street corn, in this dish, without any of the mess. It’s the rare side that can outshine any main course.

INGREDIENTS

• 4 ears of corn, husked • 4 tablespoons high-smoke-point oil, such as canola or vegetable • 1 large shallot, thinly sliced • 1/2 red chili (such as Fresno) or jalapeño, thinly sliced • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice • 2 ounces fresh cotija cheese (or feta), crumbled

• 1/4 cup cilantro • Salt and pepper, to taste

DIRECTIONS

1. Heat grill to medium. 2. Brush corn with 2 tablespoons oil and grill until visibly charred, 10–12 minutes. 3. Cut kernels off cob and combine with shallots, chilis, lime juice, cheese, and remaining oil. 4. Season with salt and pepper, garnish with cilantro, and serve.
