Heathrow and Anglia YFN events get March off to a good start

In the fi rst half of March, we held two more regional YFN events – in Heathrow and Anglia

W ith a determination to regular basis, the second event of the year took place at Heathrow where our guest speaker was John Corr of Global Motion, specialists in live music logistics. John, who was back in the country for just one week in between managing the logistics for Ed Sheeran’s Australasia tour, gave a fascinating insight for the 23 hold in-person YFN events around the country on a guests present into the challenges faced when putting on large scale shows, such as stadium gigs. With ocean freight being used for the large equipment, some of the well-reported reliability issues have caused huge headaches for the logistics team when, for example, vessels have skipped a port – the last thing needed when planning to a tight schedule of tour dates. Certainly, delegates left with an understanding of the issues. The next time they are at a big concert, they will have an appreciation of what has gone on before the lights go up. This is another example of the diversity of roles within logistics and John expressed how lucky he is to be working with artists such as Celine Dion, Coldplay, Elton John, the Rolling Stones and many more. Felixstowe event A week later, in a cold Felixstowe, we again had 23 guests when we heard from Joe Knight from Maersk, who talked about his career and what he knows now looking back. Joe talked about graduating from university and then, after returning from travelling, needing a job. He went to a local recruitment company and accepted a job to start the next day at Maersk. Not knowing what the job role was or

what he would be doing, he found himself in the post room, which is how his logistics career began. He has had several roles, but when asked which one he learnt the most from, he said it was when he was customer service manager. After all, we are a service industry. He emphasised to the audience the importance of working hard, getting out of your comfort zone

and being confident to forge a great career in logistics. A big shout out to YFN committee members who supported both events by kicking them off and facilitating the question and answer sessions. You can find the latest YFN event listing on the BIFA Website: www.bifa.org/events
