Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of the Woodford wrap
How wonderful was Christmas January and February the weather has been beautiful the days have been lovely the home has gone through some changes we have fully renovated the memory support unit with new flooring throughout we’ve done some soundproofing in the main areas, just to soften a space. The home enjoyed an amazing Christmas event and the residents loved spending time with their family and friends. Woodford Manor has been lucky enough to have a charity group attached to it for the last 10 years, unfortunately the members are getting tired, and life has become so busy, so the decision was made to close the charity group. Over the last that last 10 years the charity group has spent thousands of dollars on amazing big projects for the home. The last gift to the home from fund raising contributed to the six electric massage and heating chairs that have arrived in the theatre. We will be looking at many movies night enjoyed in comfort in our VIP seats. The warm weather and wet weather have meant that the gardens have gone crazy with very high growth. We plan to move forward when the cooler months come on to have gardening groups and support the changes to the courtyard in Durundur. We have new residents come into the home and their feedback is I can’t believe how much fun it is to live here, we have a resident saying that he will have the weekend off so that he can relax, as he’s so busy with the leisure and lifestyle activities Monday to Friday. Lookout for some twilight events with the cooler mounts coming on now what a perfect time to have some jazz and nibbles, so if you see those events on the calendar come and join in. The next three months of autumn are going to be busy with easter and many events planned so be a part of the life that is Woodford manor. If you need to see me my door is always open and there’s likely going to be chocolate exchanged. Take care everybody, Natalie Facility Manager

Message from Lifestyle Lee-Ann December was a huge month for us. We decorated Woodford to look like Santa’s wonderland, held our Christmas raffles, and of course celebrated with our Christmas lunch event. What a fantastic day that was.
The start of 2026 has been just as busy. Our Lifestyle team kicked off the year by organising the annual calendar and planning all the special events for our residents. In January we celebrated Australia Day and held our first buffet breakfast of the year. February brought Chinese New Year celebrations, and Valentine’s Day, and in March we will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day. Keep an eye out for the green cakes. In April we’ll be celebrating both Easter and ANZAC Day. We’ve also introduced some new activities this year. One of them is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, which has quickly become a favourite among residents. Our buffet breakfast, held every four weeks on the last Friday of the month, has also been a huge hit. Another new activity is “Travel to Your Favourite Food Destination.” Each month a resident chooses a place they would love to visit, and our wonderful kitchen team prepares a themed morning tea inspired by that destination. So far, we’ve travelled to Paris and America, and Ireland is coming up next. Stay tuned for the end of April and early May. We have a secret event planned for our ladies to celebrate Mother’s Day. Keep an eye on our Facebook page closer to the date. We are very excited to offer something special to celebrate such a meaningful day. Lee-Ann Lifestyle Coordinator

Celebrating Together Our Christmas party was the highlight of December! We came together for a huge celebration with many photos commemorating the occasion. Prizes were awarded, and a PowerPoint presentation highlighted the key events of 2025. Our Lifestyle team’s hard work made this day truly special, and we’d like to thank management, staff, and catering for their support, making it an excellent day overall. Kiwi Elvis provided our entertainment, adding extra fun to the festivities. Christmas Festivities The Christmas season bustled with activities we thoroughly enjoyed. We crafted throughout the lead-up, preparing items for our craft sale that showcased our talents whilst raising funds. Delays Creek Primary School visited us with their Christmas concert, and we captured Santa photos that became keepsakes for our families. Exploring the lollie shop brought nostalgia alongside treats. Our door decorating competition brought out everyone’s creativity. Betty won most creative door whilst Mopsie, Lillian, and Margaret received community awards. Seeing our decorated doors transformed our corridors into festive galleries. The wonderful Woodford Singers performed Christmas carols, and everyone joined in singing. We also enjoyed a beautiful Christmas lunch concert in the Memory Support Unit with Edward the musician. His performance created perfect atmosphere for our celebration. Christmas Eve brought fun-filled bingo with festive music and plenty of cheer. Families joined in, making it truly multigenerational.

Traveling the World Through Food We embarked on an exciting new initiative: monthly excursions to global destinations through cuisine! Each month we travel the world via food, featuring local cuisine for our morning tea. Our resident Kevin expressed a desire to visit Paris and indulge in French delicacies, so that’s exactly where we went. This program lets us explore the world whilst staying home, experiencing different cultures through their food. Australia Day Celebrations Our Australia Day celebration brought us together with lamingtons for morning tea, beer shooting, and an entertaining dunny toss game. We had so much enjoyment, and Terry was the fortunate winner of the lucky door prize. The casual atmosphere and classic Australian activities created proper Australia Day spirit.
Maggie Beer Foundation Program We’ve been participating in the Maggie Beer Foundation Trainer Mentor Program for the past year. We’ve learnt so much from this programme, from identifying areas to improve and building layers of flavour to finding ways to increase protein in our meals. This commitment to culinary excellence shows in every meal we share. Buffet Breakfast Success Our first buffet breakfast was a significant success! Excellent attendance and outstanding food options greeted us. The tables were set beautifully, and a resident’s speech thanking the kitchen and staff for their hard work brought the room together, all of us clapping. It’s wonderful when appreciation is expressed so genuinely. The buffet format let us select and serve our own meals, choosing exactly what we wanted. Valentine’s Week Valentine’s Week stretched the celebration! We started with Deal or No Deal and bingo fun, followed by a beautiful Valentine’s morning tea filled with lucky door prizes. We ended being serenaded by Elvis, bringing smiles and a little extra romance to our hearts. Extending Valentine’s across a whole week meant more of us could participate and enjoy.

High Tea & Creative Pursuits Our memory support residents enjoyed a delightful high tea experience with music by Edward and specialty coffees from the café. These tailored experiences ensure everyone enjoys quality activities regardless of cognitive ability. We had a fantastic game day with laughter echoing across Woodford. Betty, our talented diamond dot crafter, ventured into new projects: door hangings for resident rooms and wind chimes. They’ve been well- received, and we have more initiatives planned. Seeing our creativity produce items that beautify our home brings satisfaction. We also enjoyed a painting class, giving us time for creative expression We celebrated the beginning of Chinese New Year festivities with outstanding dancers. Betty won the Chinese silk scarf! The vibrant performance brought colour and cultural richness to our community. Out and About Our bus trip to the Glasshouse Mountains Café gave us a pleasant day enjoying scenery and good company. Getting out into our beautiful region remains important to us, connecting us to the wider world whilst appreciating where we live. and artistic exploration. Cultural Celebrations

American Food by Request Our morning coffee and café event featured American food, courtesy of a resident’s request. That’s how we do things here: when someone asks for specific cuisine, we make it happen. The event wrapped up with the men’s group, creating dedicated time for our blokes to gather. Looking Ahead From celebrating together at our Christmas party to traveling the world through food, from buffet breakfasts to Valentine’s Week with Elvis, from Christmas festivities to Chinese New Year dancers, summer at Woodford Manor brought celebration, creativity, and connection in equal measure.
Message from Clinical Care Kerrie
Summer is over. The weather was very Queensland with lots of rain and humidity this year. I know that many of you have spent times outdoors this summer, and it’s been encouraging to see sunscreen being applied, hats worn, and drinks being offered. As the weather cools over Autumn,
it’s important not to forget to keep your hydration up. It can be easy to forget as we don’t feel as thirsty when the weather cools down. Staff are available to make you a drink, Lee has a variety of hot drinks during Coffee in the Cafe and I’m sure lifestyle will have some surprises in the next few months with their theme days. Clinically, the next few months are busy. We have Healthcare2you coming to the home with their optometrist to conduct their yearly eye checks. Please see your RN if you would like to ensure that you are on the list. Mobility Dental recently completed a dental clinic in the home. They will be back again - if you would like your teeth checked or you are having some issues, please see your RN or myself to get on the list. This is a fee for service, or you may qualify for a voucher through the Public Dental system. We completed our scheduled Covid clinic - well done to the 38 residents who had their jab and are now up to date with the Covid immunization. Michelle will be organizing another clinic in a few months for the next round of residents who will be due or would like to be immunized. We will also be running our yearly influenza clinic shortly. Michelle will be seeing everyone over the next few weeks to get consents, and we will advise the date when we have it. We encourage all residents to be immunized and Michelle is always available to discuss any questions you may have. My door is always open if you would like a chat or have any questions I can help you with, or you can ask a staff member and I can come down and see you. Kerrie Clinical Care Coordinator

Meet the Team Krizha What I enjoy most about working here is spending time with the residents and seeing them happy and engaged in the activities we create. As part of the lifestyle team, I love organising events that bring joy, connection, and laughter to their day. It is very rewarding to know that even small moments can make a big difference to their wellbeing and quality of life. I also enjoy the warm and welcoming environment we have here. The residents, staff, and families create a friendly community where everyone supports each other. It feels more like a home than just a workplace, and that makes it a very special place to work. I arrived in Australia in 2024 and haven’t really travelled much yet. I would love to explore more places around Australia and experience snow for the first time. I’ve always wanted to see and try it since I have never experienced a real winter before. Before moving to Australia, I lived in the Philippines where I studied a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and completed one semester of law school. Even though my background is different, I am very happy working as a lifestyle assistant here in Australia. It brings me so much joy.

Last year we were part of the Maggie Beer foundation trainer mentor program. I am happy to say that we have now completed the program and have our certificate proudly on display outside of the kitchen. It was a wonderful journey that challenged us in exactly the right ways and gave us education and confidence to reach higher for our residents and provide the best that we can, daily. This year we have introduced ‘Big Buffet breakfast’ to be held Friday week 5 of our menu. It has been great to see the turn out so far, we look forward to seeing you all sharing a breakfast with fellow residents. Come along and enjoy a hearty breakfast of toast, baked beans, bacon, eggs or a continental breakfast with cereals, yoghurt and fresh fruits. We have been supporting the lifestyle team by making something to eat from the destination country chosen for the lifestyle program that’s currently running. So far, we have had croissants from France, hot dogs and donuts from America and a decedent Irish Cream cake from Ireland. We look forward to the next destination – Japan! Head Chef Beck and the kitchen team.

Sausage Rolls 1kg pork mince 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 large brown onion, grated 1 large carrot, grated 1 ½ tablespoons dried Italian herb mix 1 cup panko breadcrumbs 3 eggs 3 sheets frozen ready-rolled puff pastry,
partially thawed (see tip) 1 tablespoon sesame seeds tomato sauce, to serve
1. Preheat oven to 200°C fan-forced. Grease 2 large baking trays lined with baking paper. 2. Combine oil and onion in a microwave-safe bowl. Cover with a sheet of damp paper towel. Microwave for 2 minutes on High/100%. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes. 3. Combine pork mince, carrot, dried herbs, breadcrumbs, 2 eggs and cooled onion mixture in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Using clean hands, mix thoroughly until well combined. Divide pork mixture into 6 equal portions. 4. Whisk the remaining egg with a fork. Lay pastry sheets onto a work surface and cut each in half. 5. Using one portion of pork mixture, spread into a long sausage shape along the long edge of one halved pastry sheet. Brush the opposite long edge with beaten egg. Roll up pastry to enclose the pork mixture, pressing the edges together to seal. Repeat using remaining pork and pastry. 6. Brush sausage rolls with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and cut each into 6. Place sausage rolls, seam-side down with a little space between each one, onto the prepared trays. 7. Bake for 38-40 minutes, swapping the trays in the oven after 25 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Serve with tomato sauce. It’s easier to work with pastry when its partially thawed, just make sure it’s completely thawed before you start cooking. The sausage rolls freeze well, cooked or uncooked in airtight containers or bags, for up to 3 months.

I was born in a country town in New South Wales. Growing up, I was very close to my cousins, and we had a strong family connection, which meant a lot to me. I worked in banking around New South Wales for many years. Alongside that, I was also involved in theatre, mainly working behind the scenes creating sets. I was always a sporty person too and enjoyed playing squash.
One of my favourite pastimes was being involved in the Woodford Folk Festival. I ran the Green Room there for over 20 years, which was a wonderful experience and something I’m very proud of. One of the biggest changes in my lifetime was learning how to use a computer. It was a huge learning curve for me, especially in my banking role, but I eventually became confident enough to teach others. Technology was a big step forward during my career. My favourite place in the world is Papua New Guinea. I lived there for over 20 years, and it holds very special memories for me. I also travelled to Japan three times, which I really enjoyed. The people who influenced me the most in my life were my parents. One of my strengths is that I mix well with people. I communicate easily and connect with all kinds of personalities. What makes me smile the most is small babies and children. They are so cute and funny. These days I enjoy the activities available here at Woodford Manor. I try something different most days, which keeps me active and having fun. My proudest moment has been watching my children grow up and become honourable adults. I’m also very proud of my many years running the Green Room at the Woodford Folk Festival. The best piece of advice I’ve ever received was: Always do your best, try your hardest, and always be kind to people. I have been very lucky and happy in life. Now I’m living at Woodford Manor, where I’ve made new friends and I’m still enjoying life.

Influenza Vaccines Influenza (flu) is a common viral illness that affects people of all ages. While symptoms may be mild for some, influenza can cause serious illness and may lead to hospitalisation—even in otherwise healthy people.
The safest and most effective way to protect yourself and others is to receive an influenza vaccination each year from a health professional. The flu virus changes regularly, so the vaccine is updated annually, which is why yearly vaccination is important. The type of vaccine recommended depends on your age and health needs, and your GP can advise which option is right for you. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone aged six months and over. Receiving a vaccination not only helps protect you—it also helps protect your family, friends, and the wider community. For more information on vaccinations, please see a friendly member of the care team. Do you know about PainChek? Within our homes, we use the PainChek system, a clinically validated digital pain assessment tool. Using AI technology to support a modern pain assessment framework PainChek will identify the presence of pain even when it’s not obvious. PainChek is fast and easy to use. Using a smart device, the device’s camera looks at the person’s face then analyses the images using AI driven facial recognition. PainChek analyses facial expressions and facial muscle movements in real time and combines this information with observations of behaviour, body movements, and vocalisations to generate an objective pain score. This information calculates an overall pain score and stores the result. This outcome forms the evidence base supporting the implementation of pain management interventions, and for the ongoing monitoring of their effectiveness over time. This approach supports the early identification of pain, more consistent assessments, and improved pain management. By enabling accurate and timely pain recognition, PainChek helps care teams deliver safer, more consistent, and person‑centred care. All assessments are stored securely, allowing for trend monitoring and shared clinical insights to support ongoing care planning. Kind regards, Janet State Quality Manager
