Some suggestive verses to memorize-^-2 Tim. 3:16, 17; 2 Pet. 2:21; Heb. 4:12; Rom. 3:10, 11, 3:23; Gal. 3:10; James 2:10, 4:17; 1 John 3:4; John 3:16; Gal. 3:1-3; Rom. 3:20, 3:22, 5:1, 5:6, 8, 6:23; John 3:18, 36; Eph. 2:8-10; Eph. 1:7; 1 Tim. 1:15; Matt. 20:28; Luke 19:10; Titus 2:11-14; Isa. 53:5, 6; Heb. 9:22; 1 Pet. 1:18, 19, 2:24; 1 John 1:7, 9; John 3:3; Rom. 8:7, 8; 1 Cor. 2:14; 1 Pet. 1:23; 1 John 5:1; 1 Cor. 10:13; Jude 24; Rom. 8:28, 38, 39; Phil. 4 :1 3; Phil. 4:6, 7; Gal. 2:20; Rom. 12:1, 2; Heb. 12:1, 2; Eph. 5: Id. December 23 Topic: Advent Lessons from Bethlehem. Matt. 2:1-12. The greatest lesson to be learned is the purpose of His coming into this world of sin. 1 Tim. 1:15; Matt. 20:28; Luke 19:10; Heb. 2:14-17; Heb. 4:15; Rom. 8:3; Gal. 4:4, 5; 1 John 3:5, 8. It is an astounding fact that some today are attacking the doctrine of the Virgin Birth of our Lord. When we question the Virgin Birth of Christ we question the vera city of Matthew and Luke, deny the fulfillment of prophecy (see Isa. 7:14 and Gen. 3:15) and consequently assail the inspiration of the Bible, strip Christ of His spotlessness and His Deity and thereby nullify the atoning work on the Cross. He was the first Christmas present. That He should be born of a virgin is wonderful, but not so wonderful as the fact that He should be incarnated at all. See Gen. 3:15; Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:18; Luke 1:31; Matt. 1:15, 16; Matt. 2:2; Luke 2:7, 11; John 1:14. The Scripture lesson should be studied in the light of the whole third chapter of Philippians to be understood. The theme is——“Christ the Believer’s Goal.” V. 7 is the key verse. In the first three verses we have ADMONI TIONS CONCERNING FALSE TEACHERS, which is fol lowed by the ARISTOCRACY OF PAUL in verses 4 to 6. Gives his pedigree, yet lost, and unsatisfied, so in verses 7 to 9 he tells of his ABANDONMENT OF ALL THINGS. He suffered loss in order to gain. No self pity for his loss, for he won Christ. Among other things he gave up his own knowledge that he might attain the ACME OF KNOWLEDGE in verses 10 and 11. Paul knew Him better than any other man but longed to know Him better. Not to know about Him but to know Him. Then he gives us the AIM IN LIFE— the GOAL, 12-14. We ought to have one great purpose in life— to lay hold on that for which Christ 'laid hold of us— cmcentrate on the plan He has for us in life. Then he makes an APPEAL FOR GODLY LIV ING, 15-19, which he follows by telling us of the ADVENT OF THE SAVIOUR, 20, 21, which is the great incentive to a godly life. How we wish that this chapter might be fulfilled in the life of every believer this coming year. (Continued on Page 190) December 80 Topic Wishes for the New Year. Phil. 3:6-16.

COMMENTS ON C. E. TOPICS Rev. V. V. Morgan

(Note: In harmony with the plan followed in the Sun day ’School lesson helps,— Comments on the Endeavor topic for the first Sunday in each month will be included in the issue preceding.) December 9 Topic: What Makes a Successful Worker? Prov. 6:6-11. We presume that Christian worker is meant. Success must not he determined by visible results. Many things enter into the life and work of a successful worker and the following are some of the very essential ones: FILLED with the SPIRIT. The successful worker serves, not in weakness and foolishness of his own strength and mind but in the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. Eph. 5:18; Acts 1:8; Zech. 4:6; Acts 4:34, 6:3; John 14:12; 1 Thess. 1:5. KNOWLEDGE of the WORD of GOD. The Bible is the instrument that the Holy Spirit uses. No one can hope to be a successful worker for the Lord who has not a good practical knowledge of the Word. 2 Tim. 2:15; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17; josh. 1:7, 8; 2 Tim. 4:2; Col. 3:16; 1 Thess. 2:13; Phil. 2:16; Heb. 4:12. PREVAILING PRAYER. All successful workers for the Lord have been men and women of prayer. Isa. 40:29-31; Eph. 6:18; 2 Cor. 10:4; Phil. 4:6, 7; 1 John 5:14,sii5 ; John 14:13, 14, 15:7, 16:23, 24; Psa. 37:4, 5. LOVE for SOULS. There will not be much zeal and ag gressiveness in the work unless a love for lost souls fills the heart of the worker. 1 Cor. 13; Luke 10:30-37; Rom. 9:1-3; Rom. 10:1; Psa. 126:5, 6; 1 John 3:16, 18, 4:20. December 16 Topic: Bible Passages We Should Memorize and Why. (Each Endeavorer to memorize one passage.) Memorizing Scripture is of the utmost importance to every Christian and proves of inestimable value. Psa. 119:11; Col. 3:16; 2 Tim. 2:15. It is well to memorize certain outstanding chapters, or major portions thereof, such as John 3, John 14, Rom. 3, Rom. 5 and 8, Eph. 2, Psa. 1 and 19 and 23, etc., and Isa. 53. Also the great prayer promises, verses of encourage ment and inspiration, and doctrinal passages, and those of special value in personal work. A practical method of memorizing Scripture— obtain a number of blank cards about 2% by 1% inches and on one side of the card write out the verse to be memorized without the reference, and on the other side write the chapter and verse and book. Each day put a few of the cards in pocket or hand-bag and at odd moments take the cards out and study them. Learn one verse a day and every day review from the cards the verses already learned.
