Interesting Stories from Real Experience ------------ As told by Bible Institute Workers — --------- >>

WORK AMONG THE JEWS Jam es A. V aus, Supt.— Bible classes and Personal W ork, S treet M eet ings an d Sem i-m onthly M ass M eetings fo r Jew s of Los Angeles. A LETTER from Regina, Canada, informs us that one of our former Institute students, who was trained in missionary work among the Jews while here, has felt led of the Lord to open a work among Jews in Regina, Province of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is a source of real joy to us to see students separated from time to time unto the Jewish harvest field, and we trust and pray God’s richest blessing may attend the labors of this worker in that new field. Jewish prejudice against, and misunderstanding of and open hostility towards Christ and Christianity, and sever est persecution of those Jews, who embrace Christianity; are factors that Satan takes advantage of in deterring Jew ish men and women who have become convinced that Christ is the Jewish Messiah from openly confessing their faith to their Jewish relatives and acquaintances. At the present writing we have several Jewish women who, though they have definitely received Jesus Christ as their Saviour, and have both in private and public given testimony to their faith in Him, as yet, for fear of perse cution, have not burned their bridges behind them by an open acknowledgment of their faith to their Jewish rela tives and acquaintances. We request prayer from the “Friends of Israel” that to their timid ones may be given the courage necessary to take this important and decisive step. During the series of revival services recently held in the “Church of the Open Door” the writer was introduced to a young Jewish man, whom he prevailed upon to attend the revival service that evening. When first approached about spiritual things, he appeared indifferent alike both to Judaism and Christianity, and rather reluctantly con sented to attend the service. During the progress o f-th e powerful evangelistic mes sage, the Spirit of God seemed to deeply convict this young man of his sin and need of atonement.- On the invitation being given at the close of the service, though repeatedly urged to do so, he refused to receive Jesus Christ as His Saviour, though he admitted he was satisfied Christ was the Messiah of Israel. He put the worker off with the words, *‘I intend to become a believer some day, but not tonight.” Praying silently all the while, and just as the last invi tation was being given, the worker leaned over and once more urged the young man then and there to decide for Christ. He deliberated a moment longer, and then jumped to his feet, signifying his intention of accepting Jesus Christ as the Messiah and Saviour. Later in the inquiry room below he was shown the way o f salvation, and the joy of pardoned sins and peace with God was his.

He attended several meetings afterwards, and gave in many ways indications of the reality of his faith. A few days later he left Los Angeles for his home in the East, with the expressed intention and determination of confessr ing Christ to his orthodox Jewish parents. Just previous to his decision for Christ he said, “I hardly know why I came to California; I have only been here a few days, and in just a few more I am leaving again.” He now sees how providential was his coming, and what has come out of it. Please pray that his courage may not waver when he faces his orthodox parents at home. WORK IN THE SHOPS M arion H. As we did so we heard our name called, and the clerk at anothei counter spoke up and asked “How are you?” i Turning w< found a man with whom we had dealt several years before. Reminding us of the incident the man said: “And it was in this very building— don’t you remember?” Looking around we saw that sure enough it was the building that we had been in when we opened the Biola Club for men, in 1916. After talking a few minutes, to this man, he surprised us by saying, “Do you remember the verse you had on that wall there?” Remembering what it was we thought we would reverse the question and find out how this verse had been remembered by him. “Oh,” said he, “I remember it; -the fact of the matter is, I don’t think I will ever forget it. It was this: “The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanseth us from all sin.” Looking at this Hebrew, for he was a man of that race, I said to him: “My friend, this is God’s truth, and I trust How precious it is to know that in the work that God has called us to do, we have the privi lege of doing this very thing, and then “after many days” seeing our deeds, as the seed planted in the ground, come up and bear fruit.
