BIBLE WOMEN’S WORK M rs. L ym an S tew art. Supt.— Tw enty-five W om en E ngaged in H ouse to H ouse P ersonal W ork, Bible C lasses, and Soul W inning Clubs. An Echo from the Nicholson Meetings A woman who had attended one of the Nicholson Evan gelistic Services came into the Inquiry Room, and when asked what was troubling her, said, “I have been a Sun day School organizer and doing Christian work for years, but I have never been saved. I feel sure of it.” “Would you like to accept Christ as your Saviour tonight?” asked the worker, and she replied, “I would.” So there upon her knees, sobbing out her heart before God, she took Christ as her Saviour and received eternal life. When asked if she had family worship in her home, she replied, “No.” “Do you have grace before meals?” inquired the worker. “Not regularly,” she said. It was then explained to her that without those things in her home, and without a full surrender of her life, time, money, talents and all, to the Lord, she could never be successful in her Christian work, and wouldn’t she like to settle the whole thing then and surrender all to the Lord? This she gladly did. All this time another Bible Woman had been dealing with the woman’s sister, with much the same results, and as we arose from our knees, we met two women with happy beaming faces, praising the Lord for salvation, and going out to serve Him in a community where Christian work is much needed. A Real Birtday Party and How it Came to Be Our story dates back to two years ago when a group of women formed a Bible class and began to pray for the conversion of a young married woman— the daughter of one of the members of the class. The young woman would attend the class occasionally and bring her little girl. Then she ceased coming, but two months ago again commenced to attend regularly and one day asked the Bible Woman if she could see her as she wanted to ask some questions. Accordingly, the Bible Woman went to her home the next day and found the young woman’s mother visiting her. Passing through the dining room it was noticed that the table was set for tea. After talking, on general subjects with the mother and daughter, the Bible Woman asked what the daughter had on her mind, to which she replied, “I want to accept Jesus Christ as my Saviour.” All she needed was to have the way of life explained when she at once received Him and confessed her acceptance to her mother. The little daughter coming into the room just then the Bible Woman asked her if she had ever taken the Lord Jesus to be her Saviour. The mother thought the child too young to understand, but the worker said she thought she could make it simple enough, and asked the little girl if she had always done just what her mother told her to do. The child nodded her head in the affirmative, but the mother and grandmother reminded her that there had been times of disobedience, and then the Bible Woman opened her Bible to Rom. 3:23, and as the child was just beginning to read, they read together “All have sinned.” Then the question was put, “What does ‘all’ mean?” The child re plied, “Every one.” The worker then read “All have sinned— except Betty.” Of course the child could not find the last two words in the Bible, and the worker turned to Isaiah 53:6 and said, “Let us read together another verse which begins and ends with the word ‘A ll.’ ” So they read, “All we like sheep have gone astray * * * and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” When asked if she ever wanted to have her own way, Betty admitted that she did and began to cry.

The worker then illustrated the last part of the verse by saying, “My left hand stands for Betty and my right hand stands for Jesus.” Then, taking a book and placing it on her left hand she said, “The book stands for all the naughty things that Betty has done. Now the Bible says that “God hath laid on Him (that is, Jesus) the iniquity of us all.” Then, transferring the book from the left to the right hand, she asked, “Where are your sins now?” The reply came, “On Jesus.” Worker and child then knelt down while Betty told the Lord Jesus that she would receive Him as her Sin-bearer and Saviour. Rising from her knees Betty went to her grandmother and told her that she had accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour. Betty’s mother then called all to come to the dining room for tea, and the meal— because of the two souls that had been “born again” that afternoon was truly a real birthday party. BIOLA HALL WORK D avid C ant, Supt.— O ur C ity M ission fo r Men in th e cen ter of Los A ngeles. M eetings continuous from 10 a. m. to 10 p. m. N oon-day P ra y e r M eeting. Not one of the least important branches of Biola Hall work is the training and developing of the many students assigned here as well as the converts brought to an accept ance of the Lord Jesus as personal Savior. Many of the latter are- giving clear definite messages from our entrance' and learning to be fishers of men in their spare time coming and going to their daily work. Sunday is always a good day and on this last one there were nine definite professed conversions and one backslider reclaimed. Some of these men were just waiting for the boys to speak to them and responded to the graci ous call of God with little struggle; others were more dif ficult and stubborn. One, notably, a church-member but un saved trying like so many others to work up a righteous ness by religious acts and services, was brought through the Scriptures to realize he had nothing., but sand for a foundation; presently he began to see that salvation alone through faith in Christ’s finished work would satisfy the righteous demands of a holy God and later that he could be really saved; then finally he was absolutely secured through faith in the shed blood alone and assured by the Word of God alone, and through believing he was sealed by the Holy Spirit until that glorious day. A vision Of service came next followed by a life yielded, and the win ning of his first soul— a little lad, bringing joy to Savior and sinner alike. One man told the worker he had been' brought to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ twelve years ago. For five years he had faithfully labored in the great field, then took up special training in an eastern Bible school and ifc was there relying on his environments instead of personal dealing with God he grew careless and fell into sin. Wretched beyond measure he kept fighting conviction till at last full of his own ways he was led to Biola Hall and there brought back through the patient fol lowing up of one watcher of souls.

“Though I forget Him and wander away, Still He doth love me wherever I stray; Back to His dear loving arms would I flee When I remember that Jesus loves me.”

Following this was still another backslider who had per sistently turned his back upon God for several years; his was a very stubborn case but the worker was patient and gracious and at length the Holy Spirit brought him back to his first love; later he returned witnessing how God was again speaking to him through the blessed book awakening a hunger that the wasted life might-even yet be used for God’s glory ere the trumpet should sound.
