SHOULD YOU SAVE FOR CHILDREN’S COLLEGE OR YOUR RETIREMENT? Here’s What We Say!

Mother’s Day is truly every day! Whether our moms are here or with us in spirit, let’s reflect on some of the teachings we learned growing up. Let us show our love and gratitude by passing their motherly wisdom along to our own children and grandchildren. May this Mother’s Day be extra special for all who hold the loving title of “Mom” and for those who assume that incredible role for others. Last month, we asked you this simple question: When it comes to saving for your children’s college education or your retirement, is one more of a priority than the other? Of course, this is a timing question because many of you have already sent your children off to college. Now, many of you are anticipating your first grandchild (or third or fourth). In any case, you’re likely thinking about colleges and finances for your grandchildren. Like I always say, your financial and retirement journey is uniquely yours and yours alone. In my opinion, for those who answered that saving for retirement comes first, I agree with you. However, a study conducted by Student Loan Hero found that roughly 70% of parents would take money out of their retirement accounts to help their children pay for college. For those who know me well, you know my answer would be an emphatic “NO” to liquidate any part of any retirement savings fund. That decision could have lasting financial implications for decades. No matter what life stage a child is in (before birth, while young, or even in their teenage years), there are many affordable options, choices, and considerations when it comes to paying for college.

However, you have only one retirement, and choosing a different

retirement lifestyle requires some significant trade-offs and life changes. So for those who started saving for retirement early in your working career — and you are now enjoying a successful retirement — it worked because you stayed on course! The answer to last month’s question is “retirement,” hands down! Retirement should be your priority so you don’t sacrifice your personal financial health, security, and independence. I know you want to give good advice to your children who are preparing right now for their own children’s college-related costs. If your adult children are in this boat, I am here to help guide their decision. With the right strategies in place, saving for both retirement and their child’s future education is possible. And while on the topic of college savings, it may also be an opportune moment to have additional conversations with your adult children surrounding your own retirement funds, possible future health care costs, and estate planning, to name a few topics. You may think these are difficult discussions, but they don’t have to be — and they are also important discussions to have with your loved ones. We all want our children and grandchildren to succeed in life, and it all begins with a conversation. The bottom line is that we are here to help — if it matters to you, it matters to us. From our Wolf Retirement family to you and yours, we wish you a Happy Mother’s Day! In honor of the day, check inside this newsletter for an article feature on my very own wonderful mom!

THE BEST WAY TO CELEBRATE MYSTERY MONTH

Host a Murder Mystery Dinner!

Did you know May is Mystery Month? There are dozens of ways to celebrate this enigmatic occasion, from playing Clue to rewatching “Glass Onion” — but why not bring those experiences to life and host your own murder mystery dinner at home? Thanks to a plethora of kits on the market, doing so is easier than ever! What is a murder mystery dinner?

If your friends and family don’t like the idea of acting and dressing up, that’s okay — you can still solve a mystery over dinner! Look into kits available through Unsolved Case Files (UnsolvedCaseFiles.com) or Hunt A Killer (Shop.HuntAKiller.com), which involve collaborative mystery-solving without the character work. Step 2: Curate your guest list.

A murder mystery dinner is essentially a real-life game of Clue. You invite friends over for dinner and turn your home into the set of “Knives Out” — without the blood, of course. Each of your friends takes on the persona of a character in the story, and when one of them is “murdered,” you compete to uncover who dunnit. Step 1: Pick your kit. Planning a murder mystery dinner from scratch would take the ingenuity of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Luckily, you have several ready-made mysteries to

Most murder mystery dinners require at least four people, while some include characters for six, eight, or more! Check the number of players on your kit and invite your most creative, analytical, theatrical, and mystery- loving friends.

Step 3: Decorate and plan the menu. If you choose a themed murder mystery,

level up your event with a matching menu and decor! For games taking place in England, whip up a shepherd’s pie and make a cardboard cutout of Big Ben. For Havana Nights, plan a build-your-own Cubano bar and throw on an Afro-Cuban playlist. You can be

choose from! You can find boxes from Masters of Mystery and My Mystery Party at your local board game store, but you can find many options available online, too. Night of Mystery (NightOfMystery.com), for example, sells both in-person and virtual kits with themes ranging from ‘80s prom to Christmas homicide.

as over-the-top as you like. Remember, it’s Mystery Month!

Mary Ann Is Dedicated to Bettering the Lives of Our Youth! ADAM’S MOM’S SELFLESS MISSION

It’s often said that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Adam’s mother, Mary Ann, just like Adam, is an incredibly active, caring, kind, giving, and resourceful individual. Her passion is helping children in our community through the Kiwanis’ nonprofit organization; she’s been a member since Adam’s daughter was 3 months old — and that was nearly 10 years ago! “I joined Kiwanis because I was a schoolteacher all my life, and I found myself missing the opportunity to be able to interact with kids,” Mary Ann tells us. “Kiwanis’ main function is supporting children and families internationally, and we have a very active group here in Atlantic Beach.” Mary Ann’s local Kiwanis group is small, but they certainly make a big splash in the community with their hands in many different pots to make a difference in the lives of the neighborhood children. From participating in group activities in schools to hosting fundraisers, Kiwanis members have a blast helping children raise money to put back into their schools and donate to causes of their choice. The children have an opportunity to learn about the community and how to support it through compassion and leadership skills. “It’s amazing to see what these children can do,” Mary Ann remarks. The Kiwanis group has hosted Thanksgiving dinners for seniors in the Jacksonville Beach area, where teenagers from local high schools wait tables. They host breakfasts for honor students

and even throw Halloween parties at the Sulzbacher Center, a comprehensive homeless facility. Mary Ann served as president of the Kiwanis Club for a year and a half. During her time served, the group achieved a $10,000 grant, which they donated to fund a project to build permanent outdoor musical instruments accessible to all children.

“We are a small club and always looking for new members to join the Kiwanis family and assist in our mission,” Mary Ann tells us. “We meet at Atlantic Beach Barbeque at 8 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.” If you or someone you know is interested in joining, please feel free to contact Mary Ann at 704-619-6049 or by visiting Kiwanis on Facebook or online at Kiwanis.org. We are humbled by Mary Ann’s selfless initiative and thank her and the entire Kiwanis group for their hard work and dedication to bettering the lives of our youth!

The Traveling Sleep Trend Shaping Hotels OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL SLEEP!

Before, common goals for vacations were to eat delicious foods, stay up late to see the sights, and fit in as much activity as possible. However, this left travelers completely exhausted. And as our culture continues to understand how important sleep is to our health, more people are prioritizing rest even while they’re away. But being a sleep tourist is about more than going to bed early and ensuring you get your recommended eight hours of rest. It’s about building your vacation around sleep. Some hotels even offer rooms tailored to sleep tourists, with amenities so popular that their sleep options have become regular offerings. So, if sleep tourism sounds like something you’d be interested in, here are three hotels that help you catch those z’s. Park Hyatt New York (NYC): This hotel features a “Sleep Suite” designed by Bryte,

a company that uses AI to facilitate sleep. The room touts an intuitive “Restorative Bed,” which adjusts to relieve pressure points and controls climate temperature throughout the night, according to each person’s needs. This suite also includes an array of soothing essential oils, a diffuser, and books about sleep. The Cadogan, a Belmond Hotel (London): This hotel offers a “sleep concierge,” which boasts prerecorded sleep meditations and a pillow selection menu for every type of sleeper. Sleepers can even benefit from the hotel’s weighted blankets, scented pillow mist service, and their proprietary sleep tea. Zedwell (London): The first ever “sleep- centric” hotel, Zedwell uses recycled materials to insulate every door, wall, and floor from sound. This hotel also purifies the air within the hotel and fills every space with ambient lighting.

If you’ve ever planned a vacation, you’ve probably picked a few key places to visit, like a museum, restaurant, or historic site. However, a new vacation trend is becoming increasingly popular: sleep tourism, where a traveler plans their entire vacation to get the best quality sleep during their time away.
