Graduation and drop-out rates 13 The four-year graduation statistic tracks a cohort of students beginning in 9th grade through high school and represents the percentage of the cohort that has graduated within that four-year period. Over a ten-year period, Newton Public Schools maintained a four-year high school graduation rate of 95.94%, 7.6 percentage points above the state average of 88.31%. Dropouts are defined as students who leave school prior to graduation for reasons other than transfer to another school. The dropout rate for Newton Public Schools increased to 1 percent in 2024 from 0.9 percent in 2023. Statewide, the dropout rate has remained at 5.3% for 2023 and 2024.
