an improved path network at the forefront. This is particularly important because the footfall, especially during winter, has changed dramatically and we have become a very popular and much busier club compared with 20 years ago – which means we must be doing something right. Give us a challenge and we will do all we can to rise to the occasion. When I look back over my 30 plus years, it will always be with a sense of pride and joy as to what’s been achieved!

LINDSAY’S FAVOURITES

Favourite part of the course From a playability and aesthetic point of view, it’s 12, 13 and 14 – our Amen Corner. I particularly like the bunkering at 12, the elevation of the tee at 13 and the view up the fairway from the back tee at 14. When that corner of the course is manicured in the summer, it’s stunning. And if you can go 3-3-3 it’s even better. Favourite hole It’s going to be the 18th once the new pond and its surrounds are fully bedded in. I also love the fifth green construction with its deep protective bunkers. If you stand where the old fifth green was located, looking at the new green, it’s phenomenal – a real wow factor. Least favourite hole When I’m playing, my least favourite hole is the first because it’s a brutal opening to the round. 5s are more likely than 4s, so if you walk off with a par your round is off to a great start. In truth, it’s a great-looking hole, but it’s tough.

maintenance as key workers, but the second and third lockdowns allowed us to do a huge amount of improvement works in a short space of time. Most frustrating was the fact that the course looked stunning and nobody was playing it. We really wanted the members back! One of the big differences between now and 25 years ago is the pressure on the greenkeeping team to produce top- quality playing surfaces and a mint-condition course all-year -round. Fortunately, the investment in new Toro equipment, which will be updated with a new fleet every five years, has made a huge difference. With a shed full of new machinery and increased staff from four to six, plus a gardener, I’ve never been in a better position to do so much more. The fun part of working at Badgemore is that we never stand still. There is still lots to do and our next five-year plan is already in the pipeline, with drainage on the greens and
