Badgemore Anniversary Book

Charlie Waller Trust Badgemore Park and its owners, the Connell family, have supported the Charlie Waller Trust since 1998. The trust was founded in memory of Charlie Waller, who unfortunately took his own life at just 28 years old. At the time, it wasn’t known that Charlie had a gene that left him vulnerable to depression. Since his death in 1997, Charlie’s family and friends have endeavoured to further the conversation around depression by setting up the trust. It aims to increase awareness of the illness and its dangers, to empower young people to recognise symptoms and seek treatment, and to break the stigma around mental health. A striking and fitting memorial sculpture ‘It’s good to talk’ was installed at Badgemore Park in 2018 to mark 20 years of supporting the charitable trust. David Lyle – Pancreatic Cancer Golf Day After losing his partner to pancreatic cancer, past captain David Lyle organised a charity golf day at Badgemore. Guest of honour on the day was Ryder Cup captain and former Badgemore Park pro-am champion Bernard Gallacher. David had met Bernard when playing in a charity golf day at the Loch Lomond Golf Club in Scotland and he readily agreed to support David’s efforts. His return to the club came some 20 years after playing in three Badgemore pro-am tournaments and winning two of them! Ice Bucket Challenge Some of the Badgemore family put themselves under great personal discomfort for the sake of their fundraising efforts. When the ice bucket challenge phenomenon took hold across the country, past captain Danny Fois elected to take part for his charity Scoliosis Association (UK). During his year, he raised a total of £8,640 for the charity.
