MEN’S
Over the 50 years of Badgemore’s history, a significant number of trophies have been donated to the club. These have come from corporate sponsors, from past captains and from members of the club. Member and former committee member Eric Marwood has compiled a comprehensive catalogue and history of the trophies (available to view via the club website). Here, we have captured an overview of the marquee trophies contested at the club.
THE ALLEN CUP AWARDED TO: The winner of a 36 holes stroke play competition. YEARS PLAYED: 1973 to present. PRESENTED BY: Bill Allen, who was club captain in 1976. HAWKINS TROPHY AWARDED TO: The winner of the Eclectic competition run in conjunction with The Allen Cup. YEARS PLAYED: 2002 to present. PRESENTED BY: Martin Hawkins, who was club captain in 2000 and club president from 2009 to 2012.
BOB TANNER MEMORIAL TROPHY
YEARS PLAYED: 1996 to present. PRESENTED BY: The committee to honour the memory of Bob Tanner who was the club’s first president in 1994. BURKE CUP AWARDED TO: The winner of a midweek 18 holes Stableford competition (previously 36 holes prior to 2011) and run in conjunction
with the AG Whitman Trophy (18 holes stroke play competition). YEARS PLAYED: 1983 (original trophy), 2005 (present trophy) to present. PRESENTED BY: The midweek/ five-day committee in 2005, to replace the original trophy presented in 1983 by Tony Burke, the chairman of the five-day committee from 1979 to 1984.
AWARDED TO: The overall winner (best three scores from the five rounds) of the Badgemore Two Ball Better Ball competition. Prior to 2011, the trophy had been awarded to the overall winner of the Badgemore Greensomes and before that to the Badgemore Foursomes overall winner.
