1. Energy

a. Transportation fuels: Crude oil, gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. b. Electricity generation: Coal, natural gas, and uranium. c. Heating and cooling: Coal, natural gas, and heating oil. a. Money: Gold and silver. (Gold and silver are also used in jewelry, dentistry, and even electronics. But their primary historical usage is as a store of value – money.) b. Platinum-group metals (PGMs): Platinum, palladium, and rhodium. (PGMs are used mainly in catalytic converters.) c. Other earth metals: Scandium, yttrium, and promethium.
