North Korea also has nuclear weapons with a delivery system that could easily reach South Korea at any moment. If North Korea launched a military strike on its southern neighbor, the U.S. – one of South Korea’s closest allies – would immediately get involved in the conflict. China could also join the dispute. An incident between North Korea and South Korea might not directly impact oil supplies. But the economic effects would be felt around the globe. Prices of almost everything – including oil – would rise and whole economies might fail due to the fear and uncertainty over whether the dispute could lead to a new world war.

Russia could flex its military muscles in Ukraine or other parts of Eastern Europe .

If Russian President Vladimir Putin and his forces once again advanced on parts of Ukraine, it would almost certainly lead to the involvement of NATO (the North American Trade Association). And as the organization’s most important member, the U.S. could go toe to toe with Russia.
