WORKING SMARTER, NOT HARDER: THE ROLE OF AI IN THE WORKPLACE

A s technology advances, artificial intelligence (AI) continues to become increasingly integrated within our day-to-day lives, including within the workplace. Where used appropriately, AI can have significant benefits for employers and organisations, such as allowing everyday processes to be streamlined, increasing efficiency / accuracy and conserving time, resources and costs. This article outlines the benefits of AI use in the workplace while also highlighting important considerations organisations should be aware of when doing so.

Workforce planning and people management AI can be used to allocate shifts, schedules and tasks to employees. It can also be used for forecasting future staffing requirements and shift schedules based on existing employee data. Using these types of analytics can be beneficial to an organisation, ensuring that its processes are profitable and sustainable. Document review and drafting AI can be used to review large volumes of documents and information. It can also draft letters, emails and other documents. AI has become an increasingly useful tool within professional services such as payroll, HR and legal sectors, particularly as it allows for the automation and streamlining of repetitive day-to-day operations which are intrinsic to these types of roles. In particular: Payroll calculations AI systems can be used to automatically process payroll calculations and deductions. The use of automated systems has the potential to increase efficiency for organisations by removing the need for manual calculations, which can often be time consuming. In addition, the use of AI can reduce the risk of human error and can assist with tax compliance and reporting requirements. Recruitment AI can be used by organisations to create job descriptions, review CVs and even select pools of candidates for interviews, ultimately saving time and resources for organisations during recruitment processes. Such systems can also be used to analyse employee data and produce reports relating to employee performance, engagement and retention.
