Renaissance Tulsa MODEL ROOM DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PRESENTATION JANUARY 5, 2024
CONTEXTUAL INSIGHTS
AN IMMERSIVE STORY
ROUTE 66 The idea for the famed Route 66 was born in Tulsa, and twenty- eight miles of the historic corridor runs through the city. With the city’s Middle America location, Tulsa quickly became a rest stop for all walks of life passing through and today is a melting pot of diverse cultural influence.
CREATIVE CULTURE Two renowned art museums. A full-time professional opera and ballet company. One of the nation’s largest concentrations of Art Deco architecture. This only grazes the surface of Tulsa’s art community, where currently there is an increasing number of street artists, rappers, and folk singers flocking to this “big small city” to
OIL LEGACY Tulsa struck oil in the early 1900’s, and the city quickly transitioned from cow town to boomtown. With an unprecedented increase in the building of homes and businesses, Tulsa was the economic epicenter of Oklahoma – creating a community of vast wealth. While today the oil industry does not hold its previous prominence, the legacy of oil money continues and has been reinvested into the city’s arts programs by
FASHION REVIVAL Many Tulsa traditionalists still sport tailored fashion with the obvious Western flair – pairing their suits with the beloved cowboy boots, tooled leather embellishments, and bolo ties that their ancestors wore before them. However, as the city has evolved into a contemporary artists’ playground, the city’s fashion scene is innovating in the world of urban sportswear and sneakers – making it the premiere shopping destination for NBA players and hip-hop artists.

HEAD WEST, CITY BOY
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, a wave of philanthropy has transformed the city into a hub of creativity, evident in its flourishing arts community and thriving cultural centers. Amid the challenges of maintaining fast-paced lifestyles, creatives are finding solace in Tulsa's burgeoning artistic environment, drawing them away from the bustle of big city living. Tulsa's unique charm lies in its fusion of urban vibrancy and Western ruggedness, creating a distinct “small big city” atmosphere that embraces diversity. The city's indie spirit thrives as artists from all walks of life are welcomed, bringing with them a forward-thinking approach to refined design. As the call of the West resonates, Tulsa evolves into a place where city sophistication harmonizes with its historical traditions, resulting in a landscape that is made interesting through new ideas and cultural diversity.

CREATIVE EXPRESSION. Channeling the vibrant soul of Tulsa, the interiors will serve as a canvas for both local heritage and contemporary artistry. Incorporating elements like curated galleries and flexible communal areas for live performances will craft an environment where guests can authentically connect with the city’s creative spirit. OFF THE RECORD. Drawing inspiration from Tulsa’s rich musical heritage and its status as an urban oasis nestled just off the iconic Route 66. Like a carefully curated playlist, our spaces will harmonize the nostalgia of Route 66 with contemporary urban elements, offering visitors a sensory journey that blends musical rhythms, vintage vibes, and modern comforts. TRADITION REDEFINED. By seamlessly blending rustic charm with sleek modernity, we aim to create an atmosphere that pays homage the historical frontier spirit while offering guests a fresh and inviting experience. Fusing reclaimed materials, innovative design elements, and immersive storytelling, the design will capture the essence of the Old West in a modern way. UNBRIDLED SOPHISTICATION. Guests will be enveloped in an ambiance that celebrates sophistication through thoughtfully crafted spaces, refined taste, and understated luxury.

COLOR STORY
The hotel’s color story was first inspired by crude oil and the unexpected iridescence that emerges as it clashes with water. The foundation is dark and moody, featuring hues of ebony and rich plum that soften into lighter grays. Playful splashes of blue and warm coppery reds layer in to add excitement - thus giving an urban edge to the refined palette.

PATTERN AND TEXTURE
The design’s pattern scheme will include subtle nods to Tulsa history, through a juxtaposition of rigid geometry inspired by the city’s iconic zig -zag Art Deco style and the organic marbelization of flowing oil. The concept of juxtaposition is further established in a mash-up of contrasting textures that work harmoniously to create balance — like the tailored texture of men’s suiting paired with unexpected pattern, or the contrast of rigid wood with soft carved details.

GUEST CORRIDOR
1. The takeaway from this concept image is to create a neutral field in the corridor with dark, monochromatic finishes at the door drop. This dramatic arrival experience will carry into the guestroom entry. 2. Our interpretation of this sconce fixture will set a smoked acrylic diffuser within a contemporary powder coated metal frame. The diamond shape is evocative of Tulsa’s iconic zigzag Art Deco style, and will cre- ate theatrical light play on the walls. 3. The carpet artwork merges the Art Deco zigzag with the freeform of an oil slick. The elements are brought together with an ink- hued color story.

2. HEADBOARD STITCH DETAIL
1, 2 & 3. A thread of monochromatic design continues with the headboard wall, where ink -hued vinyl upholstery, aniline-stained wood, and a painted accent wall play together harmoniously. At the headboard upholstery, a perimeter stitch and tooled leather accent detail adds a bit of Western flair to the room’s urban design scheme. 4. A round globe sconce provides bedside lighting, featuring Art Deco-inspired details with a contemporary sensibility. 5. The room carpet’s zig zag design ties back to Tulsa’s own brand of Art Deco design, while relating back to the corridor. 6. A sculptural lounge chair with tailored, Western-inspired faux leather upholstery sits next to the multivalent floor lamp with attached side table. 7 & 8. Framed prints featuring Tulsa’s quirky public art and retro Route 66 signage add local authenticity and character.

1. A wall-mounted pendant with fabric drum shade adds lighting to the casegood wall and work area. 2 & 3. A turned wood pedestal table serves as the room’s work and dining surface. The stained wood base is juxtaposed by a two- tone painted top with a bold pop of color, giving the classic form an urban twist. 4. A channel stitched vinyl upholstered bench with bolster back pillow brings so- phistication and sculptural intrigue. 5. An urban-meets-West accent chair provides additional seating at the bench and work table. 6. The TV panel casegood evokes rustic charm in an unexpected way, with its construction of quarter-turned rough cut wood tiles. 7. Keeping a relaxed residential feel in the room, the beverage center and room safe will be housed in a freestanding bar piece. 8. The room’s artwork will be displayed in colored acrylic shelving, appealing to a contemporary and creative aesthetic.

1. ENTRY CEILING CONCEPT
ENTRY
1. The ceiling will feature painted stripes of varying widths, creating an Art Deco style picture frame around the entry. 2. An extension of the corridor door drop, a dramatic, monochromatic design scheme in the entry welcomes guests as they open the door . 3. A discovery through design feature of the room lies hidden in the closet, waiting to be found. A stencil featuring hand-drawn sneakers speaks to the city’s famed sneakerhead community, with spray painted typographic word play that adds some tongue-in-cheek intrigue.
4. EXISTING CLOSET DOORS
4. The current mirror closet doors with brass metal frame will remain as existing.
