How Does God Protect Us From Danger?

sheep will beat their heads against rocks and trees. At the first sign of these pesky flies, the alert shepherd will apply a special ointment to the heads of his sheep so they can continue to graze peacefully. Life is full of small things beyond our control that can “bug us.” By allowing the Good Shep- herd to anoint us, these irritations are counter- acted by the presence of God’s Spirit. “‘My cup runs over’ means that God gives you so many blessings that they are uncount- able,” says Sean, 10. Or it could mean “God is more than you ask for!” says Derek, 9.
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.” (Psalm 23:5). As I sit down to write, there’s a table before me with many interpretations of this well-known Bible verse. One of my favorite attempts to unravel this Scripture comes from Elizabeth, age 8: “Be kind to your enemies, and I’ll make you a king.” King David treated his enemies with kindness and became a king. But I think he had something else in mind when he wrote this psalm.
“God prepares a life with enemies in it for us,” says Jessica, 9. Well, this also has possibilities. David was an unknown shepherd boy until he heard Goliath taunt the armies of Israel. Certainly, the Lord can use enemies to test us and to teach us how to trust Him. As David said when facing Goliath, “The battle is the Lord’s.” “The enemy is around you, and God can help you,” says Scott, 10. Some experts believe the scene shifts to the banquet table of the king; however, I’m going to stick with the shepherd and his sheep. The summer grazing ranges in the high mountains are known as tables. In Spanish, the word for such a place is “mesa,” which means “table.” The picture here is fit for a postcard: sheep grazing in a lux- urious pasture on a high mountain plain. One picture the overflowing cup suggests is the shepherd providing water for his skittish sheep. They’re thirsty but instinctively fearful of rushing river water because their heavy wool makes them vulnerable to being swept away by the cur- rent. Running water has to be channeled into a vessel so that it’s still. “He leads me beside still waters.” “Jesus’ love is filling my cup,” says Ester, 8. Now, we come to the oil as in “You anoint my head with oil.” Bethany, 7, has the right idea when she says, “When He puts oil on our heads, he blesses us.” Adrianna, 8, is also on track: “God anoints our head with the Holy Spirit.” Both are true in the lives of God’s people. But in the context of sheep peacefully grazing on a high mountain plain, there’s a fly in the ointment. Except here it’s more than a figure of speech. School Assignment Asks Children To ‘Declare Independence’ ... From Their Parents

In fact, it is part of a broader strategic plan that will end in absolute horror if not stopped. Indoctrinating children to rebel against their parents and the “old” so- ciety is carefully calculated to unleash chaos and bloodshed. That may not be true of this individual brainwashed teacher, but it is certainly the plan of those who control the system and prepared her to radicalize her captive audience of impressionable children at taxpayer expense. Mass murderers from Chairman Mao and Joseph Stalin to Adolf Hitler all turned children against their par- ents as they weaponized the next gen- eration for tyranny. The same phenomenon is now clearly taking place in the United States, and the re- sults will be similar if parents and tax- payers do not put an end to it. The stakes could not be higher.
A government schoolteacher in Maine asked students to confess their “unconscious biases” and gave a homework assignment asking them to write a “Declaration of Independence” from “something problematic” in their lives such as ... “parents” or “author- ity” more broadly. Critics lambasted the exercise as part of a far left and “woke” indoctrination scheme. The scandalous exercise, assigned by high-school “social studies” teacher Sara Hampton in Maine’s Gorham school district, asked stu- dents to declare their independence from things in life that may be stress- ing them out. “Possible ideas” sug- gested by Hampton included parents, government, racism, sexism, homo- phobia, inequality, “any form of con- trol/authority,” and more. “Now is your chance to officially de- clare yourself independent from something... anything!” read the as- signment description. “Think of some- thing that is problematic for you in your life. Free yourself from whatever is causing you stress, making you un- happy, something with which you struggle, or is difficult for you to deal with.” The only institution students are not allowed to declare independence from, the assignment continues, is school. The reason why is simple: The dan- gerous revolutionaries in control of the public “education” system are working to “liberate" the children from
all forms of “oppression” (e.g parents) and isolate them by dismantling their identities, thereby becoming the main influence over their minds — and deeds. It is a recipe for disaster. Educational liberty advocate Shawn McBreairty, host of the Maine Source of Truth podcast, first exposed the scandalous assignment on X, for- merly known as Twitter. “This exercise teaches nothing but further narcis- sism,” he explained, showing images of the homework. “Another ‘teacher’ who is nothing but a taxpayer paid activist for the far-left democrats. Pull your kids now.” The homework assignment was re- vealed as part of a public records re- quest seeking all assignments by Hampton, the “social studies” teacher in question. It also exposed the teacher focusing on “institutionalized racism” and other anti-American talk- ing points weaponized by Marxists to take down the nation. Eventually, the story was picked up by major media
outlets including Fox News as the scandal continues to grow.
Government schools are now openly teaching children to rebel against par- ents and other legitimate sources of authority. Meanwhile, they are indoc- trinating those same children to sub- mit to tyranny, Marxism, global governance, and other forms of illegit- imate authority. It is not an accident.
