PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies has announced they are expecting PACK EXPO Las Vegas to be the largest in its history. Produced by PMMI, the event will feature more than 2,000 exhibitors showcasing the newest innovations for more than 40 vertical markets on September 11-13 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. “We will surpass previous PACK EXPO Las Vegas shows this year with more exhibitors and features offered to attendees than ever before,” said Jim Pittas, President & CEO, PMMI. “A thriving industry allows for great oppor- tunities as well as challenges — and we’ll be addressing critical issues such as sustainability, workforce, and auto- mation to name a few.” The “Expect Innovation” theme is set to provide more product launches, never seen before solutions, and fresh innovations. Show features include a new Logistics Pavil- ion, the Healthcare Packaging Pavilion, and the Process- ing Zone. Sustainability Center focuses on packaging sus- tainability and what it means to brands including expert speakers and interactive content. AF & PA Releases Second Quarter Boxboard Quarterly Report The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) re- leased the Q2 2023 Boxboard report. Total Boxboard production in Q2 decreased 11 percent compared to Q2 2022. The boxboard operating rate was 86.6 percent, down 7.6 points from Q2. Solid Bl. Plate, Dish & Tray–Domestic production de- creased 6.4 percent compared to Q2 2022 and increased 0.7 percent for the year-to-date. Recycled Boxboard–Coated production was down 3 percent when compared to the same six months of 2022. Uncoated Recycled Boxboard operating rate was 83.7 percent, down 8.9 points from Q2 2022 and down 10.1 points year-to-date.
