‘Champions For Change’
Our CEO Sammy is autistic herself and Autistic people have difficulties with interpreting both verbal and non-verbal language like gestures or tone of voice. Some autistic people are unable to speak or have limited speech while other autistic people have very good language skills but struggle to understand sarcasm or tone of voice. Autistic people take things literally and do not understand abstract concepts. We need time to process information and answers. Autistic people will repeat what others say to them literally, and so word communication is important. “I am proud to shout from the roof tops as to me being ‘AUTISTIC’ is not a label, but forms part of my talent as a designer, innovator and artist, it provides me with my passion to help and support others who like me have always struggles to achieve my goals and paid employment. I am also disabled and through a road accident which changed my life forever I faced discrimination, exclusion and really struggled to find employment. When I couldn’t I started Wildlife and Birdcare with a ultimate goal to HELP and SUPPORT others.

Saving The Hedgehogs
NEW FOR 2025
WBC Heidi Hedgehog Box comes with a tunnel to keep out predators and a waterproof roof and feet to raise the box to keep the hedgehogs dry. Place the hedgehog box in a shady, quiet area out of the wind and rain, ideally surrounded by plenty of undergrowth. A corner of the garden for example. Leave a pile of dry leaves or straw outside the entrance that the hedgehogs can take inside to use for bedding. Clean the hedgehog box in spring and early autumn. Make sure the hedgehogs have left the box and are not hibernating or breeding. Avoid cleaning in May through to early September as this is hoglett season. Use hot soapy water and make sure that the box is well aired and dried after cleaning. If putting out food, leave it a couple of metres away as hedgehogs don’t tend to eat and sleep in the same place. Hedgehogs prefer specialist hedgehog food or tinned meaty dog or cat food and crushed cat or dog biscuits. Never feed hedgehogs bread, milk or meal worms as these are bad for them. Please make sure you secure the tunnel before use, with the two screws supplied. The Hedgehog is one of the UK’S most iconic prickly garden friends. This little nocturnal creature cause no harm to anyone. The Hedgehog is in decline and very much on the ENDANGERED LIST and needs protecting against the elements, predators and habitat decline. If you see a hedgehog in your garden, do provide a home and food to help her to survive and grow the numbers again. Also if you see a hedgehog out during the day, they could be in danger. Remem- ber also to leave out plenty of water.

NEW FOR 2025 Saving The Hedgehogs
WBC Nibbles Hedgehog Feeding Station provides a safe and dry place to feed hedgehogs while protecting them from predators. The feeding station features an entrance that is too small for hedgehog predators to access, and a waterproof roof and feet to raise the feeding station to keep the hedgehogs dry. Place the box in a shady, quiet area out of the wind and rain, ideally surrounded by plenty of undergrowth. A corner of the garden for example. Put food and water inside for the hedgehogs. Hedgehogs prefer specialist hedgehog food or tinned meaty dog or cat food, and crushed cat or dog biscuits. Never feed hedgehogs bread, milk or mealworms as these are bad for them. Place a brick 13cm from the entrance to stop larger mammals from being able to lie down and hook out food with their paws. To prevent disease, as more than one hedgehog is likely to use the feeding station, remove any uneaten food and clean the dishes every day. Clean them outside, rather than in the kitchen, using hot soapy water and rinse well.
SJH DESIGNS
WBC Nibbles Hedgehog Feeding Station (450 x 350 x 200 mm)
The main foods to avoid Feeding Hedgehogs include: Bread and milk - hedgehogs are lactose intolerant, just a dish of water is fine.
SJH Peanuts - again very little nutrition for hedgehogs but also, we have seen multiple cases of hogs getting peanuts wedged in the roof of their mouth causing obstructions and infections Meal worms and sunflower hearts - these are thought to be linked with the development of metabolic bone disease and contain little to no nutrition for hedgehogs.
Feeding Hedgehogs Questions Answered
How do I stop cats eating the food I put out for hedgehogs? A hedgehog feeding station is the easiest way to deter cats dining with the hedgehogs. Our Nibbles hog dining station is a ne solution. Our new boxes for 2024 come with a PVC window, so you can watch the hedgehogs feeding. These have 3 feeding stations, separated by a wall and two entrances and exits.
Can I feed cat or dog food in gravy to hedgehogs? Yes, nutritionally there will be no dierence between those in gravy, jelly or loaf form. Hedgehogs wild diet is very varied so stomach upsets are very unlikely to be caused by the gravy or jelly in tinned foods.
They love meal worms, surely a few can’t hurt? A few meal worms will hurt. Hedgehogs can roam between one and two miles a night visiting many gardens. The small amount you put out may also be available by your neighbours. This will cause a very unbalanced diet likely leading to the development of metabolic bone disease.
Can I feed sh avoured cat food?
YES you can, there is no nutritional dierence between sh avours and other avours, while some hedgehogs do not nd sh avours very palatable, they cause no harm.

BIODIVERSITY Education Study Insect Hotels
Most people are aware of honey bees and bumble bees. However, solitary bees are the unsung heroes of the pollinating world. You may have seen small, fluffy bees buzzing around your garden or local park at some stage and you possibly categorised them as a honey bee, these are most likely to be solitary bees. Solitary bees nest individually inside small holes in wood or soil, or even inside plant stems. Solitary bees love nesting inside bamboo canes or dried out river reeds. They typically range in colour from light brown to black, though some may be more brightly coloured. As a rule, a solitary bee is usually fluffier than a wasp.
Some common types of solitary bees include mason, mining, carpenter and leaf cutter bees.
There are estimated to be between 20,000-30,000 solitary bee species worldwide with over 240 species of solitary bees in the UK alone. 90% of bee species are solitary bees and along with other pollinating animals their hard work is responsible for at least one in every three mouthfuls we eat. However, like many species, they are under threat and need our help.

HEDGEHOG Habitat Home
Clearing out a space for a hedgehog house in your garden can provide a secure habitat where hedgehogs are able to sleep, nest and hibernate without the threat of predators. Our hedgehog houses are safe, compliant and free from chemicals and will keep the hedgehogs and hogletts safe. Our hedgehog homes are built from larch, have an insulated roof and floor with a second layer of felt on the base as protection from the elements. There are no internal walls to prevent the risk of a pregnant hedgehog getting trapped and there is an added predator protection tunnel.

Henry the Hedgehog Box is made from larch and is our camera-ready box for filming hedgehogs in the wild. This is made from solid 225mm height larch which is 18mm thick wood. The base is OSB with 4 feet to keep it off the floor. Underneath the OSB is another layer of heavyweight green felt for extra protection. We suggest placing the box in the hedgerow on a paving slab which is slightly buried in the floor and then placing some foliage on top to hide the box. Hedgehogs usually hibernate between November through to mid March, but they can sometimes be seen out and about during this period changing nest sites. It is unusual to see a hedgehog staggering around during winter or in daylight. If you do see one and it looks unwell, it might need a helping hand. Bear in mind that hedgehogs are wild animals, so being handled is a stressful experience. If you are unsure, contact a local rescue centre before trying to help.

HEDGEHOG Habitat Home
Tiggie Hedgehog Box (450 x 350 x 200 mm) WBC Tiggie Hedgehog Box comes with one inside wall to help keep out predators and a waterproof over- hanging roof and feet to raise the box to keep the hedgehogs dry. This box is made of larch, a red wood with a 40 year lifespan. We suggest raising this box off the ground on a paving slab. This box does have an internal wall with a 130 x 130mm cut out so the hedgehog does not get trapped. (Female Hedgehogs can be over 1kg when she is pregnant). We suggest placing this box near the hedgerow as hedgehogs like peace and quiet. These boxes take over an hour to make due to their expertise and this needs to be considered when buying them in large quantities you need to allow plenty of time. For our trade customers these are sold in bulk by the pallet only (40) on a pallet Boxed. For our local communities please allow 10-15 days for delivery.
It is with much sadness to report that our much-loved hedgehogs are threatened, having undergone considerable population declines in recent decades. It’s up to us in our communities, town, villages and urban areas to reverse this trend, we need to remove the threats they face and put in place practical conservation measures. Bobby Bat [420x220x160 mm]
Conservation of Bats BAT NESTING BOX Supporting the Pipistrelle
Common Pipistrelle Bat
The common ‘Pipistrelle’ bat is the smallest but most common bat in the UK. All UK bats are
nocturnal meaning they prefer to just come out at night. These bats feed on moths, midges and other ying insects. These bats don’t need to look far for food no matter whether they live in urban or rural areas. Bats roost in tree holes, bat boxes that we provide and sometimes roof spaces. Look out for the common pipistrelle darting backwards and forwards across your garden at night, they will be looking for insects to feed on. You can identify these bats as they are dark golden brown furry in appearance, their undersides are lighter and they have a dark mask around their little faces. These bats hibernate over winter, between November and April, but if it’s warm they may come out to feed. Why not consider buying your own bat box to provide a bat a place to roost. However, be warned these little creatures are protected by law which means it is illegal to harm or disturb them. Once you have installed a bat box it is illegal to open a bat box without a license. You can call the Bat Helpline on 0345 1300 228 for more information. Our gardens and public community green spaces are vitally important habitats for all
Feeding Squirrels SQUIRREL FEEDING For Red and Grey Squirrels
The grey squirrel is one of our most familiar mammals which can be found in gardens, woodlands and parks, often proving to be very tame. The grey squirrel is a frequent visitor to gardens, they are playful and fun to watch. Squirrels will share food with garden birds from bird tables and feeders. Grey and Red squirrels feast on hazelnuts by cracking the shell in half, they also nibble on pine cones. They will cache their food in autumn, hiding it to return at a later date. Grey squirrels make a rough nest, called a 'drey' out of twigs, leaves and strips of bark in the fork of a branch, high up in the tree canopy. Females may have two litters of three to four young a year. Grey squirrels mainly eat seeds plant buds, shoots, fungi and owers, but will also eat insects and birds' eggs. They also take food from bird tables and feeders, however if you feed them separately by using a specic squirrel feeder or picnic table they should leave the bird food alone. However, you can also buy squirrel proof feeders for your smaller birds which also acts as a great preventative for large birds as well as squirrels.
Bushy Feeding Station
Bushy Squirrel Feeder which squirrels love as it’s tests them as they learn how to use it. You simply ll the box with a mix of nuts and dried fruit. They will learn to lift the lid and help themselves. The good thing about this feeder is the birds cannot get to the nuts.

Conservation of Owls OWL NESTING BOX Barn and Tawny Owls
Barney Barn Owl Box Barn Owls don’t just live in barns, they can take up residence in many dierent types of rural buildings and tree hollows. These days to presevere the species we encourage Nestboxes and these can be placed in a barn, up a tree or on a pole. Either way remember a Barn Owl Box is really heavy and will need to be secured by a team of experts, or carefully by a person used to working overhead.
DIMS: 610 W 660H 570D
Barn Owl Nest Boxes are often made from ply, a particle board that has very little structure to last amoung the elements, will split and fall apart in no time at all. Our Owl Nest Boxes are made from Larch a British Red Wood, which will provide the box with at least 20 years lifespan. Don’t forget Larch is the most popular wood used on the outside of modern buildings. We add a medium oak stain ours to add additional protection. Our stain is EN certied ‘Safe for Nature’.

Hooter is a UK Made Tawny Owl Box Nest Box built out of Larch a red wood hardy to weather. Our box is handmade in our workshop in Stoke on Trent and oers an alternative to cavity nesting and due to habitat loss it’s an eective alternative to protect the species. This Tawny Owl box should be placed high up in a mature tree the suggested height is between 3 and 5 metres. Try to Tawny Owls breed about a month earlier than Barn Owls, which means the rst eggs are typically laid around mid-March. However, eggs have been reported as early as December. Early autumn is therefore usually the best time for any cleaning and box works.
