The Despatch Summer 2024

Behind the affairs of war and state, Frederick completed his pleasure palace, Sanssouci. Frederick and his bachelor friends enjoyed composing music, performing plays and pieces of literature. Frederick had more male friends and possible lovers throughout his house. Frederick was also a huge misogynist and threw out people from his circle of friends if they were going to marry. Eventually, Frederick died 1786 aged 74. He wished to be buried next to his beloved dogs, but he was then buried with his father, but then removed to protect his body by Adolf Hitler during World War Two. After German Reunification, he was finally reburied next to his dogs in Sanssouci with his coffin draped over with the Prussian flag and escorted by an honorary guard. He was finally laid to rest 205 years after his death, according to his will. Visitors will often bring potatoes to his grave, because he promoted them to be eaten by humans in Prussia during his life. I thoroughly recommend looking deeper into the Seven Years War, his reforms and his legacy.
