Besides personal and family distress, additional healthcare costs and loss of future productivity, taking drugs place burdens on the community, writes Aarav Pokhama Mental health problems such as depression, developmental lags, apathy, withdrawal, and other psychosocial dysfunctions frequently are linked to substance abuse among adolescents.
What are drugs?
A drug is any chemical substance that when it is consumed it causes a change in an organism's physiology, including its psychology. Drugs are typically distinguished from food and other substances that provide nutritional support.
What do drugs do?
Many drugs are chemicals or substances that change the way our bodies work. Some are medicines that help people when doctors prescribe them. Many have no medical use or benefits. There are also many types of drugs which are usually categorized as recreational, medicinal, and illegal. However not all drugs are bad, for example paracetamol is a drug, but it is used to help us.
How are we taught about drugs at school ?
During science we are also taught about the different impact drugs have on our body. For example, we could experience mood swings and our nervous systems could slow down. The next day you would also usually have a high fever or sever pains due to inflammation of the liver and
