Rishi: an Analysis of his Power By Jenson Leung—Foreign Correspondent

As the head of the British Government, and someone who wields significant authority throughout national and global politics, the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, has been described as one of the world ’ s most powerful men. But how much power does he really hold? The UK has an unwritten constitution, which means the Monarch has the authority to appoint whomever they like to be the PM. Common practice, however, ensures that it is the leader of the party who receives the greatest number of seats in Parliament who is appointed PM. The main role of a PM is to exercise their executive powers, eg the appointment of the Cabinet, and occasionally the dismissal of members of the Cabinet.
