Madrid
• VOC compliance is required to receive a Declare label– emissions are ingredients that off-gas and can accumulate in a building over time. Our products meet the CDPH (California Department of Public Health) requirements for VOC emissions. California’s requirement is more stringent than any other VOC test out there.
With the launch of Madrid we now have four leather
collections that have received a Declare label by the
International Living Future Institute (ILFI).
So, what does this mean? This means that Aspen, Terra, Eden and Madrid are Declare labeled, Red List Free leathers that will contribute to a LEED project’s material credits. The “Red List” is a list of 800+ chemicals that have been deemed hazardous to health and human safety. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. For designers who are working on LEED projects, this is huge because these projects are required to have 20 permanently installed products from 5 manufacturers that have a chemical inventory of .1%. Declare asks for an inventory of everything at .01% or greater which means that Declare is more stringent than what LEED is asking for. What does permanently installed mean? – anything that is affixed to the building (walls, drawer pulls, etc). If not permanently installed, you can calculate this in a different way (for furniture). Project teams should know this and understand how to calculate this. What is a Declare label? | It is essentially a nutrition facts label of transparency. • Declare was created for LBC (Living Building Challenge) projects. • There are over 1,000 Declare labels as of today. • Products are inventoried by listing any and all ingredients that exist in a product in levels of 100ppm (.01%) or more – all of these chemicals must be listed. • Cannot contain any Red List Ingredients. • Red List (list of hazardous chemicals) – 21 individual chemical groupings – 800 different chemicals
