Selecting a Provider: Essential Questions Checklist
Due diligence in provider selection protects your organization from compliance risks and ensures quality results. Ask these critical questions before making your decision.
Search Methodology • Do you conduct "live" criminal searches directly at courthouses? • Do you conduct additional research on "hits" with no disposition? • What is your search criteria for data extraction technology? • How is a Federal Criminal Search conducted? Service Standards • What is your turnaround time by product type? • How long is your service agreement for? • Can I use other providers concurrently? • Do you offshore work or have staff outside the US? • Please provide a list of comparable client references
Pricing Transparency • Do you charge for additional research on incomplete records? • What products offered have additional fees beyond the package price? • Does a "Packaged Price" include all potential fees? • Can I get a copy of a sample invoice showing all charges? • What fees are not included in my proposal?
Compliance & Certification • Do you provide compliant Disclosure and Authorization forms? • Do you provide a copy of the Summary of Rights? • What happens if an applicant disputes a report finding? • How do you stay current with changing legislative requirements? • Are you a member of PBSA? Are you FCRA Certified?
Reference Verification Process • How many attempts do you make to contact references? • Over what period of time do you attempt contact? • During what hours of the day do you make attempts? • What is your typical success rate for reaching references? • May I contact a former customer directly?
