J ohn Downs Jr. loved working with his dad on cars as a kid and one day while on vacation to Niagara Falls a sweet little pre-war coupe pulled in front of the family station wagon, nailed it, and drove off with young John’s hot rod heart. The essence of hot and street rodding hasn’t changed since then; find a little tiny old car, cram an oversized modern engine inside it, put some cool wheels on it, and have your own bit of heaven (or hell). John Downs has had a long string of hot rods like a ’40 Ford, a ’68 Chevelle, and even has a rodding son of his own.
