S imple may not always be easy, but it is always a great statement. I first saw Tom Brough’s ’33 Ford three-window pulling into the Mid-America Nationals and I was in love. Once I hunted the rod down (hiding in the back row up on the hill), I found tons of great details that I loved, like the ’32 tank, three-piece hood, flawlessly detailed chassis, and it’s all wrapped into a relatively simple package. When I saw the rod at the Street Rod Nationals a couple of months later and still wanted to know more about it, I figured there are a bunch of you that also wanted to know all the details. The first thing that stood out to me was what Tom wrote, “I like building as much as driving,” on his tech sheet. That sounds a like a lot of us.
Tom started with a ’33 Ford three-window coupe body and chassis kit from Show Me
Rod and Custom. The boxed frame has a Super Bell I- beam front suspension with Pete and Jake’s hairpins, Borgeson’s Vega-style cross steering, a Posies front spring, and power Wilwood front disc brakes actuated with a Corvette master cylinder. A Ford 9-inch anchors the rear suspension that’s held in place with a tri-angu- lated four-bar, rides on Viper coilovers and uses Ford drum brakes. A crate 350 provides power and is kitted out with an Edelbrock induction system, Pertronix ignition, Hedman stainless headers feeding an owner- built exhaust system, and an OTB air cleaner. A tubu-
