When handling chemicals, a third factor will play a decisive part. Namely, efficient inspection of all parts of the cargo handling system, both ship and shore.
This is not meant to be an in-depth study of the differences between chemical and petroleum inspection, rather an awareness of the areas in which they differ. Chemical inspection offers many new challenges and learning possibilities to those whose experience lies with petroleum products; however, there are significant differences between the two and these differences must be recognized.
