Ori served as a Commander in the Golani Brigade. On October 7th while stationed at the Nahal Oz military post, Ori woke to sirens and dozens of trucks and motorcycles breaching the Gaza fence and heading directly towards his base. Very quickly, he faced two terrorists and took a bullet to the leg before neutralizing them. Adrenaline masked the injury. Fleeing to a bomb shelter, Ori saw two of his friends in critical condition with neck and chest injuries. They were in their final moments, and for three hours as Ori hid in the shelter, his friends succumbed to their wounds beside him.

When a grenade was thrown inside, Ori braced for death, reciting "Shema Yisrael." Ori and the few who survived the explosion opened their eyes to bodies of friends scattered around them. He describes seeing an IDF tank in flames with bodies of soldiers around it, and running towards the tank searching for weapons, only to discover that terrorists had taken the weapons. Ori learned that among the hundreds of severely injured was his Deputy Battalion Commander. With no ambulance or security vehicles available, Ori was evacuated to the hospital in Be'er Sheva in the trunk of a civilian vehicle with other injured soldiers. Since the injury, Ori has been undergoing physical and psychological rehabilitation. Since joining BFL, Ori has been on a healing delegation to Melbourne and currently visits newly wounded soldiers with the BFL hospital visitation team.

Liron served in the Gaza undercover unit for 14 years as a combat soldier, sniper, and anti-terror combat trainer. He took part in hundreds of classified missions which granted him the Presidential Award of Merit, but also took a high mental and physical toll on him, resulting in severe PTSD and arthritis. Brothers for Life helped Liron rehabilitate and reintegrate into family life and society. On October 7th, despite his injuries and with no hesitation, Liron left his wife and three young daughters to reunite with his unit and join the war in Gaza. For more than 100 days, Liron fought in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Al-Shifa

Hospital in Rimal. 18 of his teammates were injured and 1 was killed. In his own words: “While hearing the news on the morning of that horrible Shabbat, I couldn’t stay home. My entire body and soul told me to go south and fight. My wife didn’t try to stop me, she knew that I was going, no matter what. 150 BFL members joined the war on October 7th, despite all their previous injuries. Some of them had already lost an arm or a leg in battle, but it will never stop them from fighting. This is who we are, fighters for life.”
