October brings some of Northern Rhode Island’s favorite fall traditions, along with art festivals, Halloween celebrations and history programs in nearby Providence. Whether you are looking for a family outing or a weekend cultural activity, there is plenty on the calendar. NORTHERN RHODE ISLAND
Oct.1-Nov.1 Providence - Roger Williams Park Zoo JACK-O-LANTERN SPECTACULAR Thousands of carved pumpkins create an illuminated autumn display during Providence’s annual Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. The evening event continues through Nov. 1, giving families and visitors several opportunities to experience the display during the Halloween season. Oct. 9-12 Woonsocket AUTUMNFEST 48 Woonsocket’s signature fall celebration returns to World War II Veterans Memorial Park for Columbus Day weekend. The four-day festival features rides, food, arts and crafts vendors, entertainment, children’s activities, sports and fitness events, and a parade. The 2026 celebration also ties into Rhode Island’s commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Oct. 10-12 North Scituate Saturday & Sunday 10 am-5 pm, Monday 10 am-4 pm SCITUATE ART FESTIVAL The 60th Scituate Art Festival returns to the Village Green with original art, handmade crafts, antiques, live music, food and a raffle. The outdoor event is scheduled rain or shine.
Oct. 17 Woonsocket - Bernon Park 1-4 pm WOONSOCKET PUMPKIN PATCH Woonsocket’s annual Pumpkin Patch brings seasonal fun to Bernon Park with pumpkin decorating, bounce houses, a petting zoo, music and photo opportunities. The event is free for city residents, with pumpkins available for children 12 and younger while supplies last. Oct. 23 Woonsocket - Cold Spring Park 5-9 pm SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN DANCE PARTY & MOVIE IN THE PARK Costumes, music, games, a costume contest, food vendors and a movie make up this family-friendly Halloween celebration. It is a festive way to enjoy an October evening outdoors before Halloween arrives. Throughout October Providence RHODE ISLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY PROGRAMS History takes center stage throughout the month with programs from the Rhode Island Historical Society. Highlights include “Liberty is Sweet” on Oct. 1 , “Family Ties and Industrial Bonds” on Oct. 3 , “George Washington’s Path to Independence” on Oct. 6 , Revolutionary War walking tours on Oct. 10 & 24 , a Stitching Women’s History workshop on Oct. 10 , and the “HerStory” walking tour on Oct. 17 .
