The Pink Runway is a heartwarming event that aims to raise awareness for breast cancer early prevention and fundraise for the Maimonides Breast Cancer Center. Pink Runway is much more than a signature event—it is our primary source of fundraising for the Breast Cancer Center. For over a decade, this powerful celebration has featured former and current patients walking the runway, embodying the resilience, strength, and second chances that define their journeys. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our board members, donors, community partners, trusted vendors, and friends, we are proud to announce that, for the first time in Pink Runway’s history, we have surpassed our fundraising goal of $550,000. These crucial resources will allow us to acquire advanced breast imaging equipment, expanding our imaging capacity by 20%. As we gather this evening at the historic Weylin in Williamsburg, I extend my warmest congratulations to Jennifer Eisenstadt, this year’s recipient of the Wings of Healing award. Jennifer’s tireless efforts in supporting Maimonides and raising awareness through Pink Runway have been a true inspiration, and this recognition is a testament to her profound impact. I would also like to extend my congratulations to Dr. Jessica Torrente, a trailblazer in breast cancer care. Her exceptional leadership and dedication have earned her the Pink Runway Healthcare Excellence Award, and we are fortunate to have her as part of our Maimonides family. This evening would not be possible without the visionary leadership of Dr. Patrick Borgen, who founded the Maimonides Breast Cancer Center in 2009. His unwavering dedication to building a world-class center for our Brooklyn community has reshaped breast cancer care, ensuring that every patient receives the highest quality of compassionate treatment.

At Maimonides Health, we are proud to be Brooklyn’s largest independent health network, serving one of the most diverse populations in New York City. The Breast Cancer Center was created with a clear and vital mission: to provide exceptional care to all patients. Under Dr. Borgen’s leadership, the Center has become a beacon of hope for thousands of families. Before its founding, Brooklyn—despite having more breast cancer cases than 15 U.S. states—had no dedicated breast cancer center. This year’s Pink Runway is an opportunity to reflect, to celebrate, and to reaffirm the commitment I made 13 years ago to treat every woman who walks through the Breast Center’s doors with compassion, dignity, and expertise. I could not have known then exactly what my journey would entail. I only knew that Brooklyn deserved a full-service, free-standing breast cancer facility. Thirteen years after the founding of the Maimonides Breast Center, it is an honor and a privilege to celebrate all we have achieved together.

Jennifer Eisenstadt lives and works in Brooklyn and is a grateful patient of Dr. Patrick Borgen and his amazing team at the Maimonides Hospital Breast Center. After beginning her career in advertising, she switched gears and established Jennifer Eisenstadt Design LLC in 2005. Her residential and commercial design work has been featured in national publications including The Wall Street Journal and Domino. In 2024 she returned to her marketing roots and has been consulting at Cumberland Packing Corporation, the makers of Sweet’ n Low and the In The Raw line of products.

I am deeply honored to be this year’s Pink Runway honoree and would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Patrick Borgen and the entire team at Maimonides for this recognition. Dr. Borgen, your leadership and dedication to the Maimonides Breast Cancer Center, along with the incredible work you and your team do, is nothing short of life-changing. The level of care, compassion, and expertise provided at the center is truly extraordinary, and it makes a profound difference in the lives of so many. In addition to her role as wife and mother of three wonderful children, she is an active supporter of Brooklyn cultural institutions and philanthropic organizations. Most notably, she is a vice- chair of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Board of Trustees. She is honored to be awarded the Wings of Healing Award and is dedicated to spreading awareness of and support for the Maimonides Hospital Breast Cancer Center.

DR. JESSICA TORRENTE HEALTHCARE EXCELLENCE AWARD

Dr. Jessica Torrente is a breast imaging radiologist and has a passion for women’s health and the early detection of breast cancer. She has been practicing for 15 years, the last five of which have been at Maimonides Medical Center, where she currently serves as the Director of Breast Imaging for the breast center. Dr. Torrente has spent her career caring for women diagnosed with breast cancer and believes that every patient, regardless of background, insurance status, ethnicity, or orientation, deserves seamless access to the most advanced treatments available. Along with her colleagues, Dr. Torrente strives to provide her patients with world- class medical care delivered with compassion and respect. Professionally, Dr. Torrente sits on the federal FDA mammography quality and standards advisory committee since 2014.

Dr. Torrente’s Philosophy:

“Compassionate care and interdisciplinary collaboration are key elements in achieving the best outcomes for patients. It is my priority to create an environment where patients feel both comfortable and supported throughout their treatment journey. I deeply love working with the Maimonides Breast Cancer Center, where I firmly believe that the most successful results come when medical professionals from diverse specialties work closely together, ensuring each patient receives comprehensive and personalized care.”

Dr. Torrente was born in Havana, Cuba and immigrated to Miami, Florida with her parents at the age of three. She spent her childhood and most of her early adult years in Miami and attended the University of Miami for both college and medical school. She then completed her residency training in radiology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and subspecialty fellowship training in breast radiology at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington DC. Dr. Torrente lives in NYC with her husband and two children and most enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

In Honor of Dr. Patrick Borgen and Maimonides Breast Cancer Center October is upon us, ushering in tonight’s event to celebrate cancer survivors who mark their journey by walking the Pink Runway. But first, let me take you back to when Maimonides needed its current Breast Cancer Center. Enter Dr. Patrick Borgen. As Chair of the Maimonides Department of Surgery and Director of the Breast Cancer Program, he now marks 15 years since establishing the Breast Cancer Center in 2009.

Dr. Borgen,

When Dr. Borgen arrived on the scene, Brooklyn stood out with its outsized population of residents and its underserved population of patients.

You have my deepest gratitude for your unwavering dedication and exceptional care. Your tireless commitment to ensuring each of your patients receives the highest quality treatment is truly remarkable. You make every patient feel valued and important, and your compassion and expertise have an extraordinary impact. Thank you for all that you do.

Indeed, the sheer size of the borough could have qualified it as the largest city in the Western hemisphere without a dedicated breast cancer center, Dr. Borgen has said.

Naturally, Dr. Borgen set about reworking that equation.

Fast-forward to today: under his leadership, Maimonides Breast Cancer Center distinguishes itself as the sole comprehensive breast center in Brooklyn accredited by the American College of Surgeons. “What is so important about the Maimonides Breast Cancer Center is that we provide diagnosis and treatment for women and men with breast cancer in Brooklyn, close to home and their jobs, close to their families,” Dr. Borgen says. “This is unbelievably important. Patients should not have to travel for their cancer care.”

Chalk it up to the proverbial relevance of location, location, location – after that, Dr. Borgen notes that Brooklyn has more breast cancer cases than 15 U.S. states.

“Our work is so vital,” he says. “In January of this year, we treated patient number 7,000.”
