Our Autumn Beauty Has Arrived
O ctober brings a beautiful change of scenery to the East Bay. The summer pace begins to slow, the trees take on their autumn color and cooler evenings make it tempting to settle in a little earlier. Still, there are plenty of sunny afternoons left to spend outside, making this one of the best months to explore the communities we call home. Inside this month's issue, we're embracing the season with stories that capture the many sides of fall. Chasing Fall Color looks at where to experience spectacular foliage in Rhode Island and throughout New England, while Take the Scenic Route to Halloween offers ideas for an October road trip filled with autumn scenery and a little seasonal mystery. Closer to home, our What's Going On guide highlights East Bay events, arts, activities and community happenings throughout the month. Houses With a History takes a closer look at some of Rhode Island's historic properties and the stories — both documented and legendary — that continue to surround them. For gardeners, Plant Now, Enjoy Later offers practical ways to prepare the landscape while still enjoying what remains of the growing season.
We're also bringing fall indoors with Warm & Welcoming , our look at the year's cozy design trends. Our October auto feature offers a timely checklist for getting your vehicle ready for changing conditions. You'll also find a seasonal recipe, cocktail and this month's Book of the Month . There is something particularly enjoyable about fall in the East Bay. A familiar road becomes a foliage drive, a local gathering takes on a seasonal feel, and those final warm afternoons seem worth appreciating a little more. As always, we encourage you to shop local, dine local and discover something new this month. Thank you for spending part of your October with Discover Rhode Island magazine. We hope you enjoy this issue and make the most of the season. Until next month...
