T he Nebraska State Fair is an opportunity for thousands of youth who participate in Nebraska 4-H - a part of Nebraska Extension and the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, to share their “sparks” and what they have learned throughout the year. Visitors to the Nebraska State Fair can view more than 11,000 4-H exhibits from 2,500 exhibitors, representing all 93 Nebraska counties. In many cases, these exhibits represent the first step in a career path for Nebraska youth. Building a robot could lead to becoming a scientist, showing a steer could be the first step to a career in Nebraska’s beef industry, or giving a 4-H presentation can spark an interest in the confidence needed to pursue a teaching career. The 2024 Nebraska State Fair showcases youth static & livestock exhibits on the first weekend of the fair and provides a chance to experience the 4-H Fashion Show, presentation events, judging contests and more!
non-livestock 4-H FASHION SHOW Recognizes those who exhibit skills that apply knowledge of fibers and fabrics, wardrobe selection, clothing construction, or comparison shopping, and understanding of style, good grooming, and modeling and 4-H CULINARY CHALLENGE Contestants create a menu, prepare one food item, and choose an appropriate theme for their occasion, all while expressing their food, nutrition, and food safety knowledge during a live interview with a judge at the contest. livestock LIVESTOCK SHOWMANSHIP 4-H youth compete to see an exhibitor’s abil - ity to present an animal most effectively in a competitive yet positive attitude. Separate showmanship contests are held for Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goat, Poultry and Rabbit.
LIVESTOCK LIVE EVALUATION 4-H youth from all over Nebraska will be competing against each other in very competitive livestock shows. This includes Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goat, Poultry and Rabbit Shows. 4-H BREEDING BEEF SHOW

Showmanship shows off dogs’ movement and appearance. Obedience demonstrates how well the youth has trained their dog to perform specific tasks. Rally obedience has youth taking their dog through a course.

4-H DOG SHOW AGILITY This show focuses on showcasing the skills and abilities of dogs owned and trained by 4-H’ers. Agility courses challenge the dog’s speed, agility, and ability to navigate obstacles. The show is judged on speed and accuracy of completing the course. Saturday, Aug. 24 | 8 a.m. P Big Red Barn 4-H ROBOTICS SHOWCASE Youth engaged in the Robotics Showcase will demonstrate their robots programming and/ or show a video of their robot performing programmed functions.
