The Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast

Scene 5:

A Fool’s Errand

Setting:

A port near the town where the merchant once lived.

Narrator 1:

The good man went on his journey, but when he came to the port, his debtors seized his merchandise. This may be your property, sir, but your daughters Henrietta and Charlotte bought so many dresses and jewelry that you have large, unpaid bills. As a result, the merchandise shall be sold and the proceeds given to the shops as payment. After all this trouble and travel, I shall return home as poor as before! And so it was that with heavy heart, the merchant began the long journey home to his shabby little house deep in the country. After several days’ journey… he was within thirty miles of home... when he got terribly lost while riding through a forest.
