MY PATH TO REAL ESTATE HOME RUNS
Sometimes, life throws you a curveball. Growing up, my passion was playing baseball and my plan was to play for as long as I could. I was extremely fortunate to have been able to play at some beautiful ball parks with some absolutely incredible teammates and coaches. When I reflect back on these ‘glory days,’ it’s kind of like a movie that fills me with an invigored feeling of gratitude. Fast forward 7 years now and I’m still in a movie; however, now my passion is helping my people, my teammates and coaches, build wealth and a better life through real estate. I love what I get to do. Being able to help people start and stop stages of life is rewarding work; whether they are looking for a house to raise their family in, or a home to enjoy during retirement, I am honored to help. I do have a new scene working into this movie though. My beautiful wife, Alex, and I are expecting our first child — a little girl — this November. At home and at work, I have a lot to be grateful and excited for. But I’d like to talk about how I got into real estate, and why I am eager to help you accomplish your real estate goals and dreams. Martial Mind If you know me I would be surprised if you did not at least hear me mention my mentor, Jeff
Thompson or to me, Grandpa. My grandpa is like a father figure to me. He mentored me throughout my life and continues to help me grow and earn success as a real estate agent. Before my career in real estate, when I was growing up, my grandpa was also like my personal coach in life and sports. When I was 6 years old, grandpa and grandma gave me a life-altering gift. I remember opening it up and being petrified . Inside the box was a dobok, a uniform for practicing taekwondo. Grandpa explained he was signing me up for taekwondo classes. My initial thoughts, Am I in trouble? Did I do something wrong? My gift is getting beat up for recreation ? But despite my early hesitations, it may have been one of the best gifts anyone has ever given to me. It sure helped that grandpa signed up and took classes alongside me for years. Mind you, he did all of this while running a company! Tae Kwon Do instilled in me from a young age discipline, commitment, a strong work ethic, and a desire for improvement. Striking Out Growing up, I trained in baseball to compete at a high level, and grandpa was always there to help me achieve that goal. We would talk, think, and live baseball. We played quite a bit of catch. I would eventually grab a bucket of balls to just throw to grandpa allowing me to build up my arm strength and avoid grandpa needing a ‘Tommy John’ procedure. After being set back by a lower back injury (fractured SI joint) and not producing the velocity I once had, I made the decision to hang up the cleats and continue hitting the books. I graduated high school with my associates degree so I decided to at least continue progressing academically and enrolled at Washington State University Tri Cities. Eye Toward Innovation In selecting my bachelor’s, I knew I wanted a career where I could apply the values and characteristics instilled in me from my grandfather, sports, and so many individuals who have given me more support and inspiration than I could have ever hoped for. It seemed natural to me to want to ascend down the path of entrepreneurship. To that end, I earned my bachelor’s degree in business management. Shortly before graduating, I decided real estate presented a unique opportunity as a challenging career and an opportunity to continue learning from my long-time mentor, Jeff . I get to apply the skills and experiences I’ve acquired over the years to the benefit of my clients and their success. To conclude, I simply enjoy helping those around me maximize their lives through real estate.

Every Thursday in August, Katie, an experienced yoga instructor and owner of Knox Road Vineyard, leads an hour-long yoga fusion class. The cost is $10. But exercise is best accompanied by a refreshing beverage. Everyone who participates will receive a delicious glass of white or red wine depending on their preference.
Expert Strategies for Fall Gardeners EXTEND YOUR GROWING SEASON
Use Covers Pests are a constant problem for any gardener, especially when the plants you’re growing need to be pollinated. Thankfully, most fall vegetables don’t require pollination, so you can use garden mesh netting to keep those pesky pests at bay. These covers are relatively inexpensive and available at any home improvement store or nursery.
easy as planting and waiting. Gardens can be a lot of work!
Thankfully, you have many strategies for keeping your garden in top shape. Here are three ideas you can implement this year to ensure a bountiful harvest.
Timing Counts As fall progresses, temperatures will
drop, making growing certain fruits and vegetables more difficult. Inspect your seed packets to see how long each item takes to develop and ensure you give your produce enough time to reach maturity. Additionally, some things will take more from the soil than others. Potatoes and onions pull many nutrients from the soil, so you should plant nutrient-rich options like beans or peas to preserve the soil quality.
It’s Never Too Late You might think you missed your
Fall is one of the best times of the year for gardening, and now that summer is almost behind us, it’s time to prepare your fall gardens. Clean up leftovers from your spring and summer gardens, plant new seeds, and nurture your fruits, veggies, and flowers until they’re ready for harvest. If you’ve ever tried to grow fall produce, you know it’s not as
opportunity to garden once September ends, but that’s not always the case. Some plants like cilantro, kale, and radishes have a short growing season, so they’ll be ready to eat before you know it! You can also use plant covers designed for frost protection to extend your growing season by a few weeks.

Why Buying a Home Is the Correct Decision Setting Down Roots Everyone wants a place to call their own. It’s no secret that shelter (housing) is a basic human need for survival. With rent rates continuing to increase steadily in most markets — and showing no signs of decreasing — it is becoming increasingly difficult to justify continuing to rent if you have the ability to spend a bit more upfront to own your own home and ultimately build wealth in the long run. While the initial barriers of entry for purchasing a home are higher than signing a lease, the additional upfront cost can be worth it for more reasons than one. A Place to Call Your Own Your options for rental spaces are limited compared to the places you can buy. When you buy a home, you can purchase a space that fits your lifestyle. When you own a home, you are able to customize the property to best serve you and your needs and preferences. You are free to own and keep those cats or dogs that just seem to continue multiplying without worrying about additional fees or penalties. You do not have to worry about upstairs neighbors seemingly practicing parkour in the late hours of the evening. The lifestyle of homeownership provides for you a level of freedom, privacy, and opportunity that any type of rental can’t come close to. Valuable Asset In addition to securing an overall higher quality living arrangement when you own a home, you also set your household up in a position to grow generational wealth. Through long-term appreciation and sweat equity improvements invested into the property, you are able to realize the benefits of homeownership real-time on a daily basis, as well as if and when you choose to utilize the equity that it will surely build over time. The money you pay toward rent is simply spent, rather than being invested in an asset you ultimately own. On the other hand, when you purchase a home, you pay your own mortgage, rather than someone else’s. When you pay a mortgage, you are building equity, because the money you spend on a mortgage is invested in a valuable asset. All of the money you spend on rent, on the other hand, just goes toward ensuring you have a place to live for another month. Who can say what your rent will be in five years, 10 years, or 30 years time? When you have a fixed- rate mortgage, your interest rate is locked in place. You won’t see large increases in your monthly mortgage. You will be able to anticipate your expenses and plan accordingly. Buying a home is no small decision for any person and deserves a considerable amount of thought and preparation. I always recommend meeting with your Realtor and your Mortgage Lender before house shopping so that everyone can be on the same page, cohesively working to fulfill your goals and needs. After we meet to discuss how you want the process to go and what you are

Harnessing the Power of a Growth Mindset The Role of a Growth Mindset in Overcoming Challenges PSYCHOLOGY OF SUCCESS While there are no treadmills for the mind or ellipticals for our neurons, science tells us that mental exercise can help us obtain a growth mindset . The American Psychological Association defines a growth mindset as “the belief that a person’s intelligence and abilities can grow and improve with practice.” A growth mindset is the antithesis of a “fixed mindset,” which people exhibit when they quickly give up if they can’t solve a problem. Nurturing a growth mindset, in contrast, can help you view failure or setbacks as opportunities for learning. More Than Effort Having a growth mindset is about more than just effort. It is the belief that you can develop your abilities and talents, as well as a perspective on how you approach life’s lessons and learning. That belief allows you to learn more quickly and achieve greater results, no matter what you aim to achieve. This does not mean simply having an open mind; it also means finding a way to continue striving to improve your knowledge, attitude, and performance. Some call it having “grit.”
Cultivating Success With a growth mindset, success plays second fiddle to self-improvement. Celebrating the effort we put into each task motivates and encourages us to work harder and accomplish more in the future. Rather than focusing on the destination, the focus is on the journey. A growth mindset is a great way to become more positive, successful, and adaptable. By incorporating more facets of a growth mindset into your life, you will be well on your way to changing things for the better.
