A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

It has been another great week for Year 9 at Waldegrave. This week we had the Macmillan Coffee Morning where lots of students brought in some delicious homemade sweet treats to sell to support this fantastic cause. This week there have been a lot of new subject specific clubs starting up. There is a poetry club which has started at the back of the library on a Wednesday lunchtime as well as a journalism club on a Thursday lunchtime in E6. Any students that are interested in joining should chat to their English teacher. It has been lovely to see the students excited to visit the Book Fair this week talking about the new titles and writing up wish lists particularly as they will be embarking on year group Reading Challenges soon. Each sale earns rewards for our school which allows us to buy new books for our library. Thank you for your support. Congratulations to 9SPI for being at the top of the Year 9 epraise leaderboard. They are closely followed by 9EJO. Keep up the good work! On 12 October we have our Year 9 Drop Down Day, which this year will be a taster session of the different GCSE options subjects available to students. This will be a great opportunity for students to explore different subjects and start making decisions as to what they want to take next year. More information will be coming out in due course.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon The sun is also a star is told through the perspective of two teenagers whose lives cross paths and so they spend 12 fateful hours together. It explores how they struggle with parental relationships and expectations, coping with pressures of racism and immigration and the meaning of love and life. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B, Year 11 student

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed towards our Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraiser, whether that was by bringing in homemade goodies to sell or purchasing some cakes on the day. All houses did a fantastic job with their stalls, it was so lovely to see all the bright colours across the hall. We are pleased to announce that we managed to raise £1000 at our bake sale! £800 will be going to Macmillan and £200, raised by our sixth formers, will be going to the Evie Dove Foundation.
