A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

All students have had a great week once again. There were some incredible sweet treats baked by our Year 8s which were sold as part of our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Tuesday. The Year 11 house captains were very impressed by their creativity. This week our top three epraise forms are: 8EFR in 1st place, 8EMU in second and 8SGZ in third place. Well done to all the students who are demonstrating the enjoy, achieve and empower aspects of school life. Last week, 30 Year 8 students were awarded the privilege to have a trip to the Tower of London. Year 8 students in Design Technology took part in a national competition to design a bench with symbols and values to represent Great Britain on the Coronation of the King. Unfortunately they were not selected, but enjoyed seeing the winning entries and crown jewels. We have begun our Open Morning tours this week and I am so impressed with the level of enthusiasm and confidence our students demonstrated as tour guides. They were polite and courteous to the Year 6 students and parents and were a real asset to the event. Next week our Open Morning tours continue with the rest of Year 8 given the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills. Year 8 students should continue to ensure that they are wearing uniform correctly - this includes lanyards at all times while on school premises. I do hope that you have another fabulous week!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon The sun is also a star is told through the perspective of two teenagers whose lives cross paths and so they spend 12 fateful hours together. It explores how they struggle with parental relationships and expectations, coping with pressures of racism and immigration and the meaning of love and life. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B, Year 11 student

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed towards our Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraiser, whether that was by bringing in homemade goodies to sell or purchasing some cakes on the day. All houses did a fantastic job with their stalls, it was so lovely to see all the bright colours across the hall. We are pleased to announce that we managed to raise £1000 at our bake sale! £800 will be going to Macmillan and £200, raised by our sixth formers, will be going to the Evie Dove Foundation.
