THE SECRET TO SUSTAINABLE SUCCESS? FUN! WHY A LIGHTHEARTED OFFICE CREATES BETTER OUTCOMES FOR OUR CLIENTS When you picture a fun-filled place, a law firm probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Well, that’s where Keefe Disability Law is different. Every April 1, International Fun Day at Work gives us a moment to pause and celebrate something we prioritize every single day in our office: joy. In a profession as serious as Social Security disability law, where we navigate challenges with and for our clients, weaving lightheartedness into our daily routine is not just a luxury but an essential factor in our success. For us, fun takes many forms, but one thing is constant: laughter. Pranks are part of our DNA here, and they range from harmless desk antics to our infamous office mascot, Clark Griswold. Yes, our office proudly boasts a life- size cardboard cutout of Clark from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Gifted to us by a friend during the holidays, Clark has become a year-round fixture — and a source of endless hilarity. One day, he might be stationed near the copier; the next, he is looming in the hallway, ready to surprise someone. No one is immune to his charm or ability to make us jump! Food also plays a starring role in our efforts to connect and unwind. Regular team lunches give us a reason to pause, share a meal, and swap stories. And then there are the sweet treats — cookies, doughnuts, brownies — someone is always bringing something to share, be it homemade or bought on their commute. It is a simple gesture, but it creates a warmth that goes beyond just a sugary treat. Gathering around the kitchen counter, even for a few minutes, reminds us that we are not just colleagues; we are a team that cares about one another.

off with a mini in-office party complete with appetizers, eggnog, and our latest addition to the Clark Griswold shrine. Afterward, we headed out for a team lunch before embracing our competitive sides at an axe-throwing facility. Let me tell you, there is nothing quite like the thrill of hitting a target with an axe to release stress and spark laughter. These moments of fun and connection are not just distractions from our work — they are what make our work sustainable. Advocating for our clients requires focus, energy, and heart, and finding joy amidst the seriousness ensures we can continue to give our all. Even in the most difficult situations, a little laughter can go a long way. Here in our office, we are serious about fighting for your benefits, but we also know positivity and connection make us better advocates for you. If I have learned one thing, it is that even in the most demanding circumstances, there is room for laughter. Whether sharing a cookie, hurling an axe, or dodging a Clark Griswold scare, these moments remind

us that life is about balance. So, as International Fun Day at Work rolls around, I encourage you to find your joy. Because no matter how tough the day — or the challenge — there is always something to smile about. And those smiles? They are what make all the difference.

Our holiday celebrations take that camaraderie to another level. Last December, we shut the office down for an afternoon and kicked things

A Black Lab’s Role in Transforming a Veteran’s Life SCOUT’S MEANINGFUL MISSION

With strict evidence requirements, stacks of paperwork, and the emotional weight of your condition, it is no wonder so many Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) applications face denial. In fact, two-thirds of SSDI claims are denied initially — often due to insufficient evidence. That’s why we are here to guide you through every twist and turn, and we know all too well how vital medical evidence is to your claim’s success. Strong medical evidence matters. SSDI success hinges on solid, objective proof of your medically determinable impairment (MDI). This is not just about stating your symptoms but also demonstrating them through concrete evidence like diagnostic imaging reports, treatment histories, and physician notes. Consider this: A client of ours faced denial due to a lack of compelling medical records. By working with them to collect MRI results, detailed doctor’s notes, and even an RFC (Residual Functional Capacity) assessment, we painted a clear picture of how their condition severely impacted their ability to work. The result? A successful claim and financial peace of mind. THE MISSING LINK IN MOST SSDI DENIALS HOW SUPPLEMENTAL MEDICAL EVIDENCE STRENGTHENS SSDI APPLICATIONS For former U.S. Army Cavalry Scout Ryan Finch, life after his tour of duty was a battlefield of its own. Haunted by PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and the weight of his experiences, Ryan struggled to navigate even the simplest moments of daily life. But then Scout came into his life and became a lifeline, a symbol of hope, and a steadfast partner in his journey toward healing. Scout, a vibrant black Lab, has done more than help Ryan manage his anxiety; he’s transformed his world. Crowds and loud noises, once overwhelming triggers, are now manageable with Scout by his side. Soccer games, family gatherings, and the everyday joys of life that once seemed impossible are now part of Ryan’s new normal. Scout’s presence allows Ryan to enter spaces he never thought he’d enter again, not as a man weighed down by his past, but as a father, a husband, and a human being rediscovering connection. The story of how Scout came into Ryan’s life feels almost destined. Before his deployment, Ryan and his wife had adopted a black Lab, coincidentally named Scout, who died before Ryan went overseas and whose loss Ryan never truly reconciled as he was away from home. So,

when Ryan arrived at K9s For Warriors, and the trainers introduced him to his new service dog — a black Lab named Scout — it was a moment of profound healing and renewal. It was as if life had come full circle, offering Ryan a second chance at hope.

Boost your case with supplemental evidence. While medical records form the foundation of an SSDI claim, supplemental evidence can strengthen your case. Here are three examples of supplemental evidence we often recommend: • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Questionnaire: A comprehensive form detailing your ability to perform essential activities like personal care, household chores, and social interactions. • Third-Party Function Reports: Insights from family members, friends, or coworkers about how your disability has impacted your abilities and lifestyle. • Statements From Non-Medical Providers: While chiropractors, therapists, and other practitioners may not meet SSA’s acceptable criteria, their input can provide valuable context. These tools help create a 360-degree view of your disability, making it easier for the Social Security Administration (SSA) to understand the full extent of your challenges. Turn challenges into opportunities. With so much at stake, there is no room for guesswork. At Keefe Disability Law, we ensure your application is error-free, supported by the right evidence, and tailored to meet SSA requirements. Our mission is to take the stress out of the process. We’ll handle the complexities of your application so you can focus on what matters most: your health and well-being. Contact us today to build a strong case, secure your benefits, and reclaim control of your future. Together, we will ensure your voice is heard and your needs are met. K9s For Warriors is a testament to the life-changing power of service animals. Determined to combat the devastating reality that 20 veterans die by suicide every day, this program rescues and trains dogs to become service animals for veterans grappling with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and military sexual trauma. The result is transformative. Veterans find independence, confidence, and purpose, while rescue dogs gain a life of devotion and meaning. The impact is undeniable. Graduates of the program report mended family relationships, reduced medication reliance, and renewed joy in life. Ryan’s wife has seen the change firsthand, describing her husband as more engaged, animated, and hopeful for the future. Scout symbolizes resilience and proves that an incredible bond can heal even the deepest wounds.

NOT YOUR MOM’S CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE

Catch Up With Niya! PARALEGAL BRINGS

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of working with Niya Ahmad-Parks, you already know she’s the kind of person who can brighten anyone’s day. As a paralegal and case manager at Keefe Disability Law for the past 10 months, Niya has quickly become a vital part of our team. “I can’t believe how fast the time has gone!” she says. “It feels like I just started.” Time really does fly when you’re making a difference. POSITIVITY AND PASSION TO KEEFE DISABILITY LAW

INGREDIENTS

1 (4 lb) corned beef brisket with spice packet

3 celery stalks, cut into 2-inch pieces

• • •

3 qts water

• •

1 tsp salt

1 onion, quartered

2 lbs red potatoes, halved

3 carrots, cut into large chunks

1 small head of cabbage, cut into eighths

DIRECTIONS 1. In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, combine corned beef, spice packet contents, water, onions, carrots, celery, and salt. Bring to a simmer (skimming off any foam on top). 2. Cover pot, reduce to low heat, and let simmer for 3 hours until meat is fork tender. 3. Add potatoes to the pot and let simmer uncovered for 30 minutes or until potatoes are al dente. 4. Add cabbage along the edges of the meat and on top. Cover and let simmer until cabbage is tender, 20–30 minutes. 5. Place meat on a cutting board and let rest for 10–15 minutes. After meat has cooled, slice against the grain. 6. Add to a large serving bowl, ladle vegetables and broth over top, and serve.

When Niya first joined us, she faced the challenge of finding her rhythm in a fast-paced environment tied closely to Social Security agencies. But she hit the ground running and has grown immensely. “Multitasking has become second nature now,” Niya shares. “I’ve also learned that what really matters is trying your best every day — whether at work or in life.”

Outside of work, Niya’s life is full of exciting updates. Rajah, her adorable 9-month-old kitten, is equal parts feisty and lovable. “I’m obsessed with him,” she admits. Rajah spends his days chasing birds in the backyard and indulging in rotisserie chicken — living his best cat life. Also, Niya celebrated her 24th birthday this past November and had a chance to reflect on all the incredible growth and adventures she’s had over the past year. What Niya loves most about her work is connecting with clients in meaningful ways. “It’s amazing how much a simple conversation can mean to someone,” she says. “Many of our clients feel overlooked in their daily lives, so being someone who listens without judgment is so important.” Her compassion and empathy make her a standout advocate for every client she helps. Looking ahead, Niya is determined to keep making a positive impact in people’s lives while also fulfilling her dream of traveling the world. “There’s so much out there to see,” she says with excitement. “I’m ready for all the new experiences that come my way.” Here at Keefe Disability Law, we couldn’t be prouder to have Niya on our team. She’s a dedicated professional with a heart of gold, and if you get the chance to work with her, you’ll understand why she’s such a special part of our firm. So, next time you chat with Niya, don’t forget to ask about Rajah or her favorite travel plans — you’re in for a great conversation!

Age Gracefully With Movement You Enjoy: No Gym Required!

By now, you’re probably tired of hearing about healthy aging. Every article says you should eat specific things and exercise regularly, but what if you’ve never enjoyed going to the gym or jogging? You’re probably not going to start running marathons, lifting weights, or joining a sports club at this point. It can make you wonder if other options exist to add more physical activity to your daily routine. The answer is yes. Instead of going to the gym or running through your neighborhood, you can find creative activities to provide extra movement to your day. Even better? You’ll improve your physical and mental agility. Here are two creative aging activities you can explore. Take the Stage Acting is an excellent activity for anyone to start, but it becomes even more beneficial

to aging Americans. Through acting, you’ll notice improvements in your concentration and memorization. Depending on the play, you may be required to stay moving, which will benefit your physical health. Plus, you’ll get many opportunities to socialize with your castmates. Many local theaters actively look for aspiring actors to audition. Bust a Move You may have fond memories of dancing in clubs, at weddings, or during special events, but the opportunities to boogie become rarer as we age. Thankfully, dance classes and studios love sharing the enjoyment of dance with people of all ages. Whether you like salsa, tap, waltz, swing, or some other type of dance, you can find a class or group ready to welcome you.
